I am no way a geek ,wish I was -I'm trying to run an anonymous program that uses proxys
but can't get to work running broad band with comcast and a linksys router -any ideas?is the router holding back the return path

You can try JAP-java anony. proxy, but I think the govt added a cute lil backdoor, so you can't do to much.

thank you for the tips,I also found out that a router does screw your anonymiser-it's a firewall and does'nt allow a return path to check your proxies ,many thanks for the links :D

Depends on the router. Some are smart enough to let you set proxies on them for specific ports. Which model Linksys have you got?

Well... It has sort of a bastardised concept of same that pretty much allows you to portmap back to boxes on the network. Not pretty, but a possible workaround. See page 37 of the user manual for more info.

I called comcast they said I have a dynamic ip

Shouldn't matter.

It's talking about Static IP's on your internal network, as opposed to DHCP assaigned ones.

I get around this by seting DHCP start to .50, then any static IP's I assign (for services, PtP, IdentD, FTP, etc) starting with .100

The router doesn't really care. If it assigned an IP it will, if you manually set one, it's also happy.
