'Master' and 'slave' computer labels unacceptable, officials say

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Los Angeles officials have asked that manufacturers, suppliers and contractors stop using the terms "master" and "slave" on computer equipment, saying such terms are unacceptable and offensive.

    article

i will never stop using those terms now!
i can think of tons of things that that i could take offense to, so lets just ban everything.
i think the people of la county should worry about more important things like, crime, proverty, smog, and education.
i think, Joe Sandoval, division manager of purchasing and contract services is a fucken idiot!

That is by far the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I agree with you cholo, LA has much bigger problems then what terms people are using to label their drives."Hooray! Now people wont be offended by these terms, and on a side note gang violence is at an all time high, but who cares?" People need to stop getting offended and start being offensive. There is too much worry in our nation about pissing some one off. You shouldnt have to worry about calling someone black and them getting offended. Iam sorry if that pisses people off but its true.

"Sewer Worker Access Portal", "Postal Delivery Person" Where does it stop?

To paraphrase George Carlin: What's next, a rape victim being reported as an "Unwilling semen recipient"?

What's the prolitically correct term for "waste of time and money"?

Its a funny thought to think of the person that opened their computer and said, "Lets see...I have to set this jumper...wait a second! This Cd-Rom drive is obviously directing a racial slur at me!"
Does this mean that "Master Computer" from TRON will have to be made politically correct?

I wonder how the S&M crowd is taking this... :p

I personally believe that political correctness is a way of bullshitting ourselves and others into ignoring/sidestepping underlying problems. If someone is offended or overly sensitive, should THAT person not be asked why they are so easily offended as opposed to changing the language society uses? Unless a term or phrase it intended to offend, get over it!

am I the only one for whom "Master & Slave" makes them think of S&M instead of racial stuff?

I have relatives in the Canadian Postal service, all female (insert going postal joke here) and they always use 'postal delivery person'. Must be a Canada Post policy or something. Point being, political correctness is dumb.

Che: I wonder if the S&M crowd could sue for discrimination? If anything, I'd just love to see a courtroom full of people in Latex and Leather arguing before an 80 year old judge. Unfortunaly the policy only extends to equipment purchaed for the county, not the employees lifestyles.
