  • Defcon was four months ago...

Now, four months after Defcon, what one thing sticks out in your mind as the funniest, worst, best, etc. of your entire time there? Just one event or incident, it could have lasted 3 seconds or 3 days. Just one event you will never forget. Be specific for those of us who may have missed it!

    Let's hear it.

The most humorest moment was when it was brought up that a guy took his defcon badge with him to the pacific ocean took a photo, grabbed some ap on the way back (granted they were not counted, so as to not start a flame war) and showed that his finding were valid, and he accually made the trek.

For some reason I just image this guy grinning with his middle finger up with the ocean behind him f*king halarious. I think this really shows how well this sub-culture makes great attempts at thinking out side the box (450miles to be exact)

And there...succintly put, is why I allowed it to happen...at least ONE person understood!

As for the funniest thing...toss up.

First, a little background. Rob Lemos from cnet.com wanted to interview me about the WWWD before WWWD3. I sent him a list of "requirements" if you will that he had to meet before I would agree to the interview. Basically it said that he couldn't chop my answers up, but rather had to use my complete quotes. He decided to proceed with his story without me. Anyway...I met him in the press/speaker area at DefCon right before my presentation...and he introduced himself. The conversation went like this:

        Lame Reporter (LR): "Roamer?"
        Awesomely Cool Chris (ACC): "Yeah."
LR: "I am Rob Lemos from Cnet."
ACC: "Oh, you are the reporter who was unwilling to pigeon hole himself in to actually writing the truth?"
LR: "Wow, you are as big a jerk in person as you are in email."
ACC: "Yeah, pretty much. See ya."

The other funniest moment...I will attribute to myself. Nothing is quite as fun as making yourself laugh. ;)

During my presentation when I was lighting the media up for their irresponsible journalistic tactics...I was talking specifically about the completely bogus claim that websites that provide maps of found APs are facilitating terrorism.

ACC: "This is total bullshit. I mean come on, do you really think terrorrists are sitting around their camps saying 'I planned to start my Cyber-Jihad today, but dammit...WiGLe is down again."

I was quite pleased with myself.

I guessed it was because you thought arkasha was cute... Atleast that's why I would have allowed it. ;)

The beach picture came really as an afterthought after I had walked up to 2 women in Santa Monica. I held up my Defcon badge to them and told them I was in a scavenger hunt, and needed a photo of myself in front of the kinkos.

As I was posing, I caught a whiff of the sea air and thought of a much better way of "proving" I was in LA.

Best part: Surviving the trip down. Meeting everyone

Most memorable: Siviaks bare ass tearing across the parking lot.

Worst part: The whole Deer incident kinda sucked. Still paying that one off.

Lockpicking contest stands out in my mind, as well as some of the best and most intelligent conversation I've ever had.

I really enjoyed the Sealand talk at Defcon. I mean, we all knew Sealand failed before the talk, but I really didn't comprehend the true nature of the horrible failure going on there until the talk.

The guy from Sealand (dunno his name) gave an awesome e-money talk the previous year, i was glad to see that he was back this past year to talk about sealand failing, which was the most interesting lecture i've ever seen at Defcon.

you just wanna see my ass again.... the man's name who gave the talk on Sealand was Octal (not to be confused with our beloved OctalPussy, no relation) anf I think one of the best things about DefCon this year would have to be the Forums meet.. a chance for all (er... most) of us to sit around for a bit and just have a good time
If I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.

Best part: Seeing some old friends, meeting lots of new ones. I got to meet many of the goons this year, they were all great folks. I did not run across a single tard this year, which is always a good thing.

Funniest moment: Seeing the expression on a girl's face when Flea made the comment "You little bitches want to get drunk? We got some wine coolers!" She looked like a cat that had just been doused with water.. A go to hell look if I ever saw one!

Worst part: All the bad karma in the air after poolcon, such as the girl screaming and wailing from too much booze, the fight, etc.
