Saddam Hussein has been captured in Iraq

    http://msnbc.msn.com/Default.aspx?id=3708151&p1=0
"Ladies and gentlemen, we got him," U.S. administrator L. Paul Bremer said at a news conference in Baghdad, adding: "The tyrant is a prisoner."

Bremer said the former Iraqi president was captured Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in the town of Dour, 10 miles south of Tikrit, ending one of the most intense manhunts in history.

Now is this going to be like the time the president said "We have found nuclear weapons in Iraq" when he really didnt?

Actually what I believe was said was more along the lines of, "we have found evidence of a nuclear weapon programme in Iraq". It's a small but crucial difference.

Not of actual completed weapons, no. However, the intent to construct both nuclear and biological weapons was demonstrated by documents and equipment that were discovered.

Put it this way: let's say I have everything needed to make meth in my garage except for the ammonia and sulphuric acid, which nobody in their right mind will sell to me because I'm known in the area for wanting to break into the lucrative illicit drug market. One day, while I'm parking my car, my neighbour across the street sees the setup I've got in my garage and calls the cops, telling them that I'm a drug dealer.

The cops swing by, expecting to find meth by the truckload. What they really get are a bunch of largely-useless bits of equipment and some instructions printed off of a website on how to manufacture the stuff. OK, guess we were wrong about the pills, but hey, this guy was gonna make them - and look, he's even written down phone numbers of chemical supply companies three counties over right on the instructions.

Whoops, guess we'll just have to nail him on intent. Iraq has largely (note that I didn't say totally) been a similar situation: things changed once we got in, but the basic suspicions were founded.

And now I'd really like to let this portion of the thread quietly die... We're starting to tread into politics & religion territory. And for the benefit of anyone who may be wondering, that link I posted above was for demonstrative purposes only. Neener.

Very good news about Saddam, wish they would drop the humanitarian crap and just send him to cuba for some rugged R&R with an oak tree.
The essential feature of complex behavior is the ability to perform transitions between different states ... Complexity is concerned with systems in which evolution, and hence history plays or has played an important role in the observed behavior.

Fascinating, Blackwave started a political thread. Better print this out for the official record!

Well that's one more murderer we won't have to worry about.

Yeah, when I first heard about it, my thought was that they were going to send him to Guantanamo Bay and hold him there, but I guess not. Oh well, at least they have him in custody and now justice can be served.

nice try... I was simply stating a fact that many people did not know at the time regarding saddam's capture... btw I have started the most threads in the old and dead politics and religion forum so if there is any surprise it is purely out of ignorance :)

since people now know we certainly should not deviate onto forbidden grounds and thus the thread is now closed for business. :) thank you and have a nice day.
