  • Programming language wars!

So I saw this story on OSnews yesterday, which (illegally?) benchmarks programs created from .NET languages against a number of languages which compile to native code and ones that execute in run time environments. I managed to get it on the front page of /. along with my own benchmarks pitting gcc 3.3 vs icc 8.0 vs Java 1.4.

And guess what I found... Java is slow on Linux, at least when it can't rely on SSE2 for performance.

I'm pretty sure Bascule's not a noob? The sourceforge projects referenced in his sig might give us some insight into his level of proficiency.
