this is the second time this file has showed up on my computer. Might be some new mirc exploit or something, that first time i got some file threw mirc then this file apeared, now this time this file just apeared. Anyone know what it is. i uploaded the file to my ftp.

    www.po2.net/~.txt

i added .txt for reading purposes.

IIRC, there's a Microsoft Knowledge Base article that discusses this (and an attendant patch to make it stop happening). It's caused by an update to either Outlook or Outlook Express writing a temporary file (called "~") to the desktop. You might want to look into it there; unfortunately, I don't remember the exact article.

mIRC can also be enabled to auto-accept a file when someone tries to send you one. Good way to end up with lots of icons for "Debbie's Happy Bedroom" and the like.

That file is a backup copy of your Windows address book. Remove the .txt extension and replace it with .wab and you will see that Address Book will open it.

It's an issue that the minions in Redmond are aware of.

It looks as though someone forcefully made you a contact of theirs that makes your computer succeptable to Incoming file's. Outlok or a Web Program wrote it to your desktop because it is sent as a .lnk

FILES, not FILE'S. C'mon people, doesn't school teach what the apostrophe is for anymore? That is one of my biggest pet peeves, and I have not recommended people for hire because of it!
