  • BIOS Help!

I have this HP Pavillion, and lately I have been Experiencing some problems, but just the other day it went Ape on me. when I go to start it up, nothing comes up on my moniter. the drives make noise and the Hard-Drive reads, but no graphics. Plus it stops after that. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I dont have my old graphics card that came with my machine. I have a Radeon 7500. How can I fix this?

Start in safe mode, I assume this is Windows 98?

was your old graphics card pci and the new one agp? you're gonna have to narrow things down a bit more, and since it appears you fucked with the box, probably a good place to start would be to try going back to the setup you had before that was working, then narrow things down systematically from there.

.. if the graphics card in there is agp (not trying to sound phone tech db monkey), but try removing the card and reseating it.. agp cards are notorious for that
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

Other possibility: if the HP has onboard video, it may be defaulting to that instead of the Radeon.

Well, No. It doesn't have an on-board videoo controller or card. But It was working fine for a long time. It used to have alot of problems, but then I upgraded from 98 to XP Home. I then had to format because of a virus that I got. when the format was complete, the computer restarted but nothing displayed on the Screen and That's where I am at.

So after formatting your HD, You get a blank screen. Does your computer no longer bios post? (ie tell your ram, operating speed, resource allocations, deveice detection, etc)
