Sorry about that Chris. As ususal, you are right. Scanning for wireless isn't illegal. I did get ahead of myself. :(
I think I will continue to lurk. :)

      Crimials are not.

      Hackers are not criminals.
By refering to "hackers" that damage websites you are applying a misnomer. Criminals damage web sites. Hackers do not.
Sorry if I added my 2 cents on a subject I don't fully understand. All I know of Wardriving is what I have learned here. I think though that were I to see a man walking around my neighborhood at night, trying peoples back doors, I would have to assume that he was either a policeman seeking to protect or a burgler seeking to gain entry. Doesn't that basically describe Wardriving? Correct me if I am wrong. I learn from my mistakes. And Wizard, no, I am not a kid, I am 49 years old, I haven't been into computing very long, because I had to work most of my life, I wasn't a fortunate son. Now that my family is raised I can afford to continue with my education. So, if at times I don't understand, please cut me a little slack, thank you.

A "hacker" who hacks to do damage is a... "cracker"... the term hacker was given a severe negative connotation by the media and government because they fear what they cannot control, and label all things of that sort bad to cause mass public outlash.

A "hacker" is one that takes things apart to see why they work they way they do out of curiosity, finds holes, modifies and fixes it till it works like it should, or give it other features that many have not thought to add for advanced provisioning and expansion.

This is in line with hacker as I define it, as it was originally intended to be defined. As Qu|rk said, the media fed the sheeple what the sheeple needed to fear and took our word and fucked it up. I don't want the same thing done to WarDriver, although I do fear it is a battle that is likely already lost.

Thank you for setting me straight on that. Most "sheeple" don't have a clue as to how a computer works or in most cases a clue to how to work one. There is a constant barrage of misinformation about hackers, cracker, hijackers, and Identity thieves, however. When I went to school the were no computer classes, all we knew of computers were that they were as big as a house, contained all the worlds knowledge and spat out indecipherable little cards with rows of holes punched in them. So from time to time I may make an assinine comment or ask a question which will sound elementary to most of you. Thank you for your patience.
