The article was interesting in that Verizon did admit to placing taps.

But there were three points to think about:

1 - This re-work that they want done at your expense will apply to all switched networks, which is what POTS was classified in 1992, so this isn't new just another version of the Asscroft expansion.

2 - Tapping is already legal and they don't have to inform you under the patriot act....do you really think that they aren't monitoring this forum?

3 - Good encryption is good for privacy. Though it does set off the alarms when they can't read your email, it does make them work at finding out what jokes you are sending. So if you really want to mess with the "Internet monitors" use encryption for jokes...just don't forget to change the name....

Great this is all we need now. Why can't the government just stop with its dumb proposals to better things?

They didn't get the pony that was on thier wishlist so now they are playing hardball.

I wonder if the Internet can come under the "Freedom of the Press" of the First Ammendment.

Also interesting that they want such access, they already have search engines that make Google look pretty weak.

Now if they get this, all they will need is someone who knows how to run computers! Which reminds me, anyone else see the 1/4 page full color want ad in the LA Times for the CIA's Clandestine Services?

THE GOVERMENT IS FULL OF SHIT. I think this could be a invasion of are civil right. they have no right to spy on every one ,when ever the feel like. if the goverment has backdoors in every one computer that make them the same as a hacker, just that they dont know as much. so if hacker are bad guy then the goverment people are bad guys to lol.

Hackers are not bad, they are misunderstood intellectually superior beings that have found new and creative ways to do things many could never conceptualize or understand - using "if hackers are bad government people are too" is so wrong of a comparison it's not funny... I would recommend you do some reading... start with our civil liberties act, then go to the homeland security pages, and top it off with a copy of "The Art of War", it will put many many things into perspective that you do not seem to be grasping at this time.

People don't want to be FREE, they want to be SAFE. They will vote it in.

Anyone who thinks the government is here to help us has not been in a DMV line in a long time.

Ok, this guy is obviously right. As he is undoubtedly a product of the GOVERNMENT run public school system they have obviously failed to teach basics to this poor soul. Basics such as spelling and grammar....shall we:

The mis-observed point of all this is, they want to make it _easier_ for local police forces to tap your BB connection.

First, lets skip over why that sentence could lead one to beleive non-BB connections are already so simple to tap , local police 5-0's can do it.

Second, since the patriot act has been in effect it is already easy for federal government to tap your lines. Hell I had logs of AIM conversations retold to me, when they wanted information about some guy I've never met!
What (I think) they want now is local 5-0's to have the power and competence to tap networks at possibly the local authorities discretion. Leading to A) increase in non-federal crimes leading to federal crimes cases (getting more dirt on you) and B) a network of BB monitoring equipment left at the hands of all the wrong people and will probly be used for all the wrong reasons.
shit i dunno, i just work at the place.

either i miss wrote it or i yall all miss read it . what i was trying to say is that i that is what the public view of hackers are and i was useing the publics view to get my point across.sorry if the was any miss understanding.the public views hacker as bad people .then they sould view the govenment as bad people for hacking to.just cause they make a law saying that the govenment agents are aloud to hack and spy on people ,then we all sould be aloud to do the same thing and not get in trouble for it. i am not saying hacker are bad people i know hacker are not bad people . i am just saying what the public think about hacker and the sould think the same way about hacker in the goverment because the only diff between a hacker at home and a hacker in goverment is the the goverment hacker got the law on their side .

yep, as part of the "no child left behind" act, he was expelled from his school for pulling down the curve.

You aren't in school, but you aren't on fuckin' AIM either.

Use proper punctuation, captialization, and when possible spelling and grammar. If you can't handle that, you are likely to irritate a lot of people that try to read your gibberish.
