  • IMsecure from ZoneLab

I just found that ZoneLab has a new(?) program called IMsecure

    http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conten...jsp?lid=imlink

and wonder if anybody here has tried it and has something intelligent to say about it.
The idea of making a program which makes IM more secure is really good, but the question is about ZoneLab really have done their job.

Their firewall has not impressed me very much, and I know that IM sucks. Sometimes I just need to use Yahoo or Msn, and the question is about this program managed to make this form for communication more secure
When people call me normal I know it's time to seek mental help

I haven't tried this app. But I thought I would let you know that there are other options that are free. For secure IM I prefer Trillian or Fire, depending on the OS use of the individual that I'm communicating to. I like Fire the best as it is PGP based for the encryption.

I dont know if this will count as intelligent or not, it's not so much about the product as it is about grc and gibson (I'm assuming this is grc and not whoever bought zonealert, am I wrong?)...

gibson is a kook, flat out, the guy is a bit fried and on the paranoid side, so much so that it clouds his judgement. Read his rants on raw sockets in XP and his account of being ddos'd where he freaks out beacuse he's recieving MILLIONS of packers. oh no, not MILLIONS, I genterate MILLIONS of packets downloading porn...

If the guy gave away a free ap that would make me shit gold bricks I'd say no thanks...

0versight is right, why the hell is there dialogue over a commercial product that doesn't match up to better software that's free and open source?

because the idea that something is of different quality or based on a different dev. model doesn't inheirit worth or lack their of of conversation.

And I immediately dismissed the merit of commercial goods based on ideology?

i can't answer that question obviously... but you did ask why are we talking about commercial goods when better open source products are available... and in my reading, it was stated in such a manner asking why should someone par take in such a talk... if the point were about "better" software that a zone labs product doesn't compare to, then it being free/OSS is irrelivant, is it not? the comment wasn't meant as a personal attack, but more as a rebutle to why having dialouge on the subject is worthwhile.

besides the retoric of some "phobal" that provides no answer or valuable input. There was a question asked....are any of the "max posters" going to provide real input?
