Ok so here's the deal:
I have a DWL-650 Dlink Prism2 based WiFi card for my 133 mhz 32 mb toshiba Satalite Pro 440CDX laptop. The laptop dual boots windows 2000 and Knoppix-Std Linux. I can use the Wireless card great in windows 2000 (all networking functions work) except I have a few problems with wardriving style applications.
1) Can't get the card to work in linux. Have tried Debian, Knoppix, and Knoppix STD. Removing/Inserting the card generates "Card removed" or whatever and says a hex code for manufacturer name and the such. I dunno what to do to get it to work; wlan_ng is on the laptop and so is kismet and all, but no /dev/wlan0 shows up. Is there something I have to do? My only linux experience with a prism2 (or wireless in general) has been on a zaurus. A FAQ or something would be spiffy.
2) Can't get sniffers to work in windows. I hear netstumbler wants an orinoco chipset, any way around this in windows 2000? Ideally I would just get the card to work in linux and use kismet.
Many thanks!
In other news, my laptop is upgrading via ebay. Soon I will have a (Hold your breath) 266 mhz with 64 mb of ram! Still crappy but now twice as much crappy.
