  • favorite flavor?

I have been wanting to break away from window$ for a while and have got linux 7.1 on another computer.
My question is "what is you favorite distro of linux and why."
is there an upside to any one over another?
    thanx

The only stupid question is the one that you dont ask.
Or the one that ends up in dev/null.

Linux 7.1? Which distribution do you have version 7.1 running? Redhat? Mandrake? Etc? I personally use Slackware, so I'd have to recommend that. Although not as "new user friendly" as other distributions, I believe it is an excellent distribution if you want to truly learn and understand Linux. Another recommendation I have, take it or leave it, is to stay in a shell for the first while you are learning, rather than running X and "pointing and clicking" to get something accomplished. Take the time, and learn the commands. As for resources, there are many available online, one beingLinux Questions. As for printed material, I recommend "Running Linux" by O'Reilly. Also, don't overlook using the "man" and "info" commands, most times you can find the answers to your questions in the program documentation.
You're either on my side or else you're in the way.

But I am gay and use slackware... Doesn't that make slackware gay? And if so, does that make you gay for using slackware?

Ok, first off, I don't like threads like this one. I find "What's your favorite distro?" threads similar to a/s/l on IRC. Stupid and lame.

I was kind of letting this one go for some bizarre reason though.

That said...come on. Google. The question you just asked (quoted) is just plain lazy.

You know you don't have to do that right?
I am assuming that you are talking about partitioning the drive. If you use fdisk you can just do +1500M or whatever you want the partition size to be. In fact, I think you can just do +3G for 3 gigs, but I am not 100% sure on that.
