Try searching the forum instead of wasting time

It's a question, stupid or otherwise. I'll assume you were talking about coming to the next DefCon...

    http://forum.defcon.org/showthread.php?t=2050 - on bringing a desktop pc.

http://forum.defcon.org/showthread.php?t=1799 - what was planned on being brought last year.

I read somewhere that it's a matter of personal opinion. If you want to bring a laptop, then bring it, but you'll probably have so much to do anyway you wouldn't use it.

    Hope this helps.

I'm also going to assume the same thing.

As far as bring a laptop to con goes it's purely up to you, but I would not recommend it.

Besides there is so much that goes on at Defcon why would you want to sit in front of a computer for?

Truly extraordinary. This individual has navigated the forums, read up on all the prequisite information prior to posting and successfully brought this wealth of knowledge to the attention of an individual who apparently didn't read anything prior to posting.

stupid question notwithstanding, laptops are good for:

                  - the plane
                  - wardrive/ctf comps
                  - taking notes in a talk/playing games when stuck in a boring talk
                  - ftping to your "friend's" system so he ends up on the wall of sheep
                  - coding something random and having other random people come up and say "hey, that's a cool yet utterly impossible idea.. can I help" and making new friends.. [actually happened w/ me at defcon 9]
                  - throwing into the pool

Some people just don't like to travel without their laptops, some people do..

So it all really depends on your personality and your fear of the airport people breaking it.
a pc-0x90 by any other name is a nummish..

I guess it makes a change from those "WOOO I'M NEW 1ST POST HI all u leet hack saws! I WANNA HACK TEACH ME!!!" kinda posts.

I really wanted to make it to Defcon12, and bring a few mates but I doubt we'll be able to afford the flight over. 'Tis a pity, but we'll have to wait til DC13 now - we can't legally have any fun (read: alcohol) in America anyway. Damn laws.

Regardless of your age or finances it's wonderfully refreshing to have a new dc forum user like you. As Spahkle and Kelvin pointed out it is rare when someone actually reads and researches in the forums/faqs before posting (sadly enough it is so rare that it deserves notice).

If it helps the financial situation any we have some rooms at the AP and a few other hotels in Vegas for dc and we may be able to arrange some room sharing stuff with you and your mates to help keep the costs under control.

Thanks for the advice, I'd seriously considered the room-sharing option. The problem is though, most of my mates (including myself) are 17-18 and saving up to get into University, so *any* reasonible amount of spare cash lying around goes into the savings account. DC13 would be a better time for all of us (as long as it's around August 2005), as then we'll all be either in Uni, or will have enough cash (hopefully).
                        As:
Flight to Las Vegas (with changing) = about £5-600 e. if we're lucky.
                        Entrance Ticket = $80 = about £50
Daily Food Ration = £25 a day, about £150 for a decent stay
Money for buying useless things = about £80-100

                        blah blah blah
So it'd end up being anything up to £1000 to properly cover it, and atm we need that kinda money for edu-<spit>-cation. I'm sure there are ways I could participate that don't involve actually being there... <Sniff>
                        Maybe next year.

Christ, it's expensive enough to come down from Canada when you're a student, but the UK? Here you can save $300 by taking the bus (which takes an extra 35 hours), but you don't really have a choice there... boat? heh
