Don't know if this helps or not- but if you try Orbitz right now (as of Wed. May 19) you can get AlexisPark rooms for 7/30 ~ 8/1 . Not sure how long that will last-
Wow LosT, you're a lifesaver. I've been freaking out about what to do for a room since the AP claims it's booked, but I just prepaid for a room on Orbitz. Thanks for the excellent advice! If you're ever looking to puff a little of Fort Collins' local plant life, let me know!
Wow, you can get a room at the Alexis Park for DC through Orbitz, but i noticed that the prices were a tad bit more expensive having to use Orbitz.

Bascule: What's grown in Colorado needs to stay here, besides if you share with Non-Coloradoans your just inviting them to come and move here. :p

A long time ago I asked about this fact because I'd done some travelling and noticed some hotels we're booked in one location, but available through other means.
The third party services (such as Orbitz) actually reserve some rooms ahead of time. These rooms are available to you through Orbitz or whoever reserved them. Then the remaining rooms are left up to the hotel to distribute. So if it's full in one location, you might find other rooms (for different prices) in other locations because their reserved rooms haven't been taken.
Ouch, in a similar vein to the Andy Kaufman is alive hoax debunking, I'm afraid I have to break the bad news on this one.
Apparently Orbitz.com's systems don't have any way of confirming that the hotel is completely booked, and simply allow you to reserve a room even if the hotel is sold out. I just confirmed this with the AP, they said they'd received several requests for rooms through Orbitz for Defcon dates and just faxed them today telling them that the rooms are not available.

Please help: sources for info on Orbitz overbooking
I just called the Alexis Park again (directly) and they have now confirmed my room twice (not Orbitz, AP themselves)- can anyone shed (possibly more specific) light on the Orbitz overbooking thing? I just want to make sure I'm not out in the street come Con time....
