Yes, you could try Smash, but be sure to only use water from the Poulaphouca reservoir.

And greetings from the Wicklow emigrant :) Are the Dublin 2600 meets still going on? I've been trying to get in touch with someone there since I'd love to catch one when I'm back over the holidays, but haven't heard anything at all.

Some general answers without me violating the rules:

But what do you do if you cant connect to their ip, some sort of error?
A connection error from one host to another using TCP/IP can be caused by many things:
        No Route to host
IP is in an "unroutable network" (such as private networks 10.w.x.y, 172.[16-31].x.y or 192.168.x.y where w,x and y are ints from 0 to 255)
TCP with SYN flag set is dropped by the receiver
Filter exist on route to host to block your packets.
Filter exists on route from host to you to cause transmission back to you to be blocked
End Host receives your request for a connection to a service, but due to an error on the remote system (service not available, etc.) an ICMP reply is generated by a the remote host or a node on the route to the host.
        (There are more reasons)

        whats the problem?
        Depends on the error.

and what do you do about it?
First, you do not post in multiple threads with the same Question.

        Next, you read The Rules

Then, you see what happens when you do not follow the rules .

        Good Luck

Its extremely easy if you talk to you friend using yahoo messenger. When your talking to them look up netstat -n in your cmd.exe There ip is the one connected with port 5051 or something like that. ;)

Dare I mention something like "establish a direct connection and run netstat -a"?

Might I suggest some good reading for you before you make a complete idiot of yourself:

              RFCs (Request for Comments):

              http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc.html

              --

Some good books on TCP/IP (which help explain the above):

              TCP/IP Illustrated volumes 1, 2, and 3 by W. Richard Stevens

              --

CCNA book (which is windows centric -- I hate that aspect of this book):

              http://www.lulu.com/content/59202

              --

I hope the above will give you a clue about TCP/IP, so you can move on to asking better questions. The above should keep you busy for at least a year.

I say the easiest way to find a computers ip is to gto into msn plus and add the person to ur contact list then insert tag ip and it will tell you the ip of the comp. that the person who u are talking to is on. or juss ask the person cause half the ppl in the world dun even know what a modem is lol.

just in the interest of research.
                        thanx
Install windump.exe and winpcap.exe. Use google to find them on the net and drop them somewhere in your path.

                        open command prompt
                        C:\windump

aim yer friend and look for traffic aimed at port 6000 something. Google for the AIM port, don't remember it offhand.

                        cheers
