i was reading an old post and relazed no one has really covered this subject, at dc11 I purchased a Cold war era radiation detector which I checked into my baggage, when I recived my baggage ( was the last one out ) I noticed that it had been zip tied because the people at TSA care so much about the zippers of my luggage, I noticed that the radiation detector had been completly dissaembled because one half was not properly put back on.

Your probably lucky it was still in your luggage, I mean they probably did't figured out what it was... If you plan brigging back that type of items, do yourself a favors and send them back by ground mail...
I don't know mutch about those, but I expect Radiation Detector to have some sort of radiation shielding, so they must be very hard to scan... It's very normal that they dissasemble them to verify if it's a bomb or whatever.../* NO COMMENT */
