Modding your car for Wireless?

First off, I'm new to these forums, and know this thread seems a little wierd, but I'm sure someone on these forums have done it.

I'll be getting a G4 Powerbook in a few months (my first mac of my life), and was really thinking about making a mount (removable as well) for it in my car like police cars do. You could have it mounted cornered from you on an open tripod, or hydralic arm, and have your Wi-Fi, Mp3's, GPS, and maybe even route shoutcast streams into your car stereo!

Has anyone else thought about this? Basically you can do it just throwing the laptop in your car seat, but I thought it'd be a little better to have a mount with wires hidden. Import racers (the big boys) do something similar to this for tuning their cars while driving.

Any products someone would recommend for this (mounting it), or would you have to retro-fit another product? Any info would be great!

I'll look and see if I can dig up the companies I had, years ago someone I know fabricated a swiveling platform for a laptop I was using in a service vehicle, at the time I had looked at a bunch of commercial ones. I had the info for the company who sells the ones the police dept's use.

They sell a setup that bolts onto the existing bolts under your passengers seat..

If you're in California, be careful about doing this. Having video displays active in the driver's normal field of vision is now illegal.

Are these the same big boys who think that tuning consists of a cattle vagina exhaust tip and some type-R stickers (note: +5hp per sticker)?

nope... go for the patent quick.

actually, the easiest way to go is to embed a dock for you laptop and connect everything on the dock statically in your car... just take your box and toss it into the dock, good to go with little heartache of connecting a dozen cables.

You'll probably find a cascade of setups that wardrivers have used at http://forums.netstumbler.com. Your budget is your limit.

As skroo mentioned though, be careful about active screens that can be perceived in your field of vision. It is actually illegal in many states now. And in the states that don't have a specific law against it, it can be used heavily against you if you get into an accident.

Yup, same thing with cellphones. It may be perfectly legal to drive down the road jabbering on your headset, but (again, at least in California) there's a check box on every ticket issued marked 'Cellphone in Use'. If you're being written up for a moving violation and that box is checked, the implication of diminished attention while driving it imparts can really screw you.

No it depends on what sticker, I mean if you put a "weapon-r" brand sticker it will only give 2 hp, on the other hand if you put a much better brand like AEM or Mugen, then it could put add at least 5hp.
