All us guys are dying to know how the Gathering went. Did you all really strip down to panties and bras and have a pillow fight? We couldn't quite see in the window...
I kid, I kid. But seriously, was the vibe different with all girls?
It was comparable to an all male poker game. Meaning: Men can talk, belch, etc when there aren't women present because they have that comfort level. Likewise, the meeting was similar in other areas of communication.
This isn't saying that all of us had similar personalities or belief systems but rather we focused more on our commonality and in my opinion, we enjoyed a certain comfortability with gender identification coupled with the fact that we are minorities in the male dominated computer world. To have very open minded-intelligent women gather in a small area who AREN'T bashing each other was refreshing! :)
Then again.. that's just my opinion... BO
In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.
It was a great meeting, void of scenewhores.
I am currently working on a group site, so that we can expand upon our ideas for next con. We are taking a look at doing a few projects, one of which I hope to con BlackOrchid into presenting via panel discussion.
Hopefully by next week, we can be well on the way to starting the robot project, or IP appliance project.
Thanks again OP for working out a room for us, and DT for allowing us to use the room.
IN addition, thanks NDEX for talking with the press.
Pezz.. just a quick follow-up. Check out this link when you have time. The first article addresses the issues which we discussed at the meeting.
Years of working these cases and sending letters to legislation seems to be working on a small scale. I'll delve further into this later.. but thought you'd like a to read the link to better understand my position. Bo
I thought the turnout was pretty great, thanks BO for the link to Tom's Hardware, the issues listed are ones that we can try to tackle. Did anyone show up after the Awards Ceremony for the post Gathering meeting? I saw Kendra but wasnt sure if we decided to still meet.
I think we all had a fantastically good meeting. The problem was most of us were hell-bent on going to the Mind and Machines or Apache talk, so the we had to cut it rather short
I feel like we got off to a good start, perhaps forming a nice base for next year (or a forum, I believe was suggested?)
It was awesome to meet the rest of you gals, and many thanks to those who brought it all together.

I really like the idea of a panel discussion.

I keep thinking of the 'talkie toaster' from Red Dwarf!

Re the press.
I've been approached by the press/documentary film makers at every Defcon, but always declined. Partially because of the political climate, but also because of "certain events" at this con, I chose to sit and talk to them this time.
They had some interesting questions but also some unexpected pre-conceived ideas. Like, was it more difficult for a woman to get into the hacker scene/defcon/security industry because it's primarily male dominated. I tried to point out that the DefCon scene and the 'hacker scene' are not interchangeable. Also that, in my experience, the Defcon/InfoSec community was more likely to welcome a skilled woman than the general population because the Defcon/InfoSec community tended not to be intimidated by intelligent women.
I don't know if the interview will ever see daylight. I didn't sign a release and they didn't get my real name, so I'm doubtful. Either way, I tried to represent all the great women who worked and participated in the con.

Yep, actually I located Bo to once again con here into the panel discussion on her current project. Ill refrain from posting the topic for now.
I have been working on a forum setup and can host that somewhere, I do have a site that I am currently not using much.
I have been playing catch up for the last few days with a class I am taking, but should have results soon.
I know off hand bo has a forum online, although yet unpublic, and she could probably just create a private forum within that bbs for your work/discussion/plotting.
Pezz, et al; Vandal is correct. I have a site and a forum already up and running that I haven't done a thing with since starting it. I didn't mention it for fear of being a shameless self promoting idiot... :D
Just an option that is available to take a little of the workload off everyone.
