  • Can it be done or is it to large of a task even for experienced hackers like yourse

I will be the first to admit that I don't know anything about hacking; however I have to deal with spam all the freaking time. My question is this. Why can't we just hunt these spammers down and make their life so miserable that they don't want to send spam anymore. I mean, we know how to find them because what good would spam be if it's not advertising something and what's the point of advertising something if you don't let people know how to find you in order to order what you are selling. So I say if people want to be so rude to send millions of junk mails out every day they deserve to get harassed, hacked, and even shut down completely. I wouldn’t feel sorry for a business that got hacked because they were doing some shady business tactics. Its absolutely ridicules how many spam messages I get every day, especially on the AOL account my boss uses. Shut them all down that's what I say. Can it be done or is that to large of a task even for experienced hackers like yourselves?

Here is an idea: Take some deep breaths.... Then stop... now think. (hard)
First of all, I think this post is boarderline on breaking the rules....

Second, spam is a huge problem, spammers hide behind spoofed headers, compromized boxen and more I don't even know about...
Before you come here proposing all this ridiculous ideas and such.. try learning a little about your topic first..
    Enjoy the fire...

Wow......One it is alot harder then you think. Spammers usually have servers set up, its not their home PC. Not all of us have just one store bought Dell on an AOL account, there are folks out there with multiple computers with multiple security features on multiple IP's. Also it is not the job of hackers to play internet police, the people that do that are called Fed's. How would you like it if I felt that your buisiness was "shady" so I burned down the building? It's not justified. Here is a hint to not get spam, dont give out your e-mail address and when you have to set up an e-mail account on free web based e-mail address that gets all your spam. I, as well as many others I know, dont get very much spam if any at all because they follow some basic procedures.

On another rant. You are asking people to perform an illegal act on a forum that logs IP's and is possibly browsed by fed's. That wasn't a bright idea. And yes the task probably is to large, almost every major company has some sort of spam. Are you asking that hackers take out all of these major companies?

First of all, I think this post is boarderline on breaking the rules....
      It does break the rules.

      4. The ‘teach me to hack’ or ‘could you hack this for me’ Posts
We will not teach you to hack, nor will we hack for you. There are a number of reasons for this. First, we will not break the law, simple as that. It takes some serious balls to sign up on a board full of total strangers then ask them to commit a crime for you. Some of the members of this board (since anyone can join) may be federal agents, or narcs, or police officers so you may be hanging yourself out to dry. Its also just plain insulting to think that we’re all criminals who are eagerly sitting around waiting to do your dirty work. As far as teaching you to hack goes, this is not a step by step process. Reading and contributing to the forums are a great place to start learning the basics. There’s also numerous threads about learning guides, books, tutorials, etc. that can be found by using this forums search function. Secondly, we won’t help you because you should be doing this stuff for yourself. Hackers pride themselves on being smart and independent, so why do you think we’re going to help you when you can’t even be bothered to put an ounce of effort into helping yourself?

So I will start with Microsoft and Intel. Who is going to take Gateway, Dell, and Sony? :p

Well it seemed to me that he/she was asking for something to be hacked but phrased the title of the topic as a question, when in actuallity the title of the topic is being used as reverse psychology. Our friend here seems to think that hackers are a dumb people who would allow something lame like this to trick them into performing an illegal act.

Haha yeah.. they try to social engineer everyone on this forum into it....
Im too lazy to go back and find all the threads.. but I remember some being like:
"My friend says This IP is unhackable" , "My class says i need to crack this MD5 hash" , "Can you guys do a pen test on such and such IP?" , "These guys had sex with my sister, hack them", "I need to see my friends email, how can I hack his hotmail?" , "How can I hack the person in the downstairs apartment so that her music turns off? Can I just send a virus through her soundcard? " and even "I need to spy on my friend, help me use sub7".....

OK, so I exaggerated with some.. But some i didn't... :(

Closer to defcon.. more sad it gets...

                Not my intent

You all make excellent points. First off let me say that it was not my intent to recruit anyone to do anything illegal. Their has got to something that can be done without breaking any laws. And I am not saying go after the spammers. I understand that going after spammers would be difficult. And my question was not "will you" It was "Why can't we" and it was probably worded poorly, a mistake on my part. I know that it's not your responsibility to do anything. Nor was I asking you to. So let me reword the question. What can be done legally to stop spammers?

                  1. First big problem, the number of spammers greatly outnumbers the number of hackers with skill capable of 'doing something about it'

                  2. These spammers hide their IPs through a number of means. I dont know about you, but I have a day job that takes up a good percentage of my time. I dont have the time in the day to track down the source of every piece of spam I get, let alone spending the time to bring the fight to them

So, do what the rest of the net community does, filter it. With things like RBLs, white lists, and bayesian filtering you can knock most of it out. I know folks that get 2 to 3 pieces of spam a week after taking a proactive approach to filtering their mail.

people are always bitching about spam, i personally could careless if i have to delete the tons i get on a couple of accounts. i hate snail mail spam way more, since it is a waste of paper.
the threats i hear about spammers is so funny it makes me want to start spamming, but give out my address just to see who would show up.
get over it and hit the delete button.

So, why exactly is it our responsibility? When did society place the burden of ridding the world of spam on our shoulders? And are you even sure you're talking to the right people in the first place?

I just checked my contract: there's nothing in it that says I have to give a shit.

I'm with ch0l0man on this one. It takes less time to hit the delete key (or the 'd' key if you are uber wicked like me and use pine) than to whine about spam.

I am also in agreement with ch0l0man on the side of hating smail mail spam more. I have to physically DO something with that shit, especially those ignorant ass 'pre-approved' credit card apps that I don't want and don't need but shred instead of just tossing in the garbage.

Spam is an annoyance. Delete it and move on. The 'hack back' ideology is silly to me.

As far as I understand one part of spam is that a large corporation or company hires an advertising firm, for the purpose of internet marketing. The large company isnt doing the spamming, its usually advertising agencies.

The advertising company/individual depending on the agreement either gets paid a flat sum, but usually gets paid by the ammount of traffic they create, or orders that get processed thru a link with a refferal number.

Much similar to the "Pay Per Click, or Pay To Surf" programs where people put banners on sites and get a penny or less per click.

When it comes to spyware, there have been a few companies, who took the complaints of thier customers seriously, when they found out thier company was being advertised by installing software onto users machines without permission. I think one instance was the MyWay SearchBar.

One of those bars out right now has popups for T-Mobile. I Doubt T-mobile had the intention of infecting peoples machines with adware for purposes of advertising. But I may be wrong, they've pissed me off before.

I use those credit card apps pre-paid postage to send them the *other* snail spam I get that day...I still have to do something with it, but it makes me feel a *little* better to send them my garbage.

Actually, I used to do that too...they only have to pay the pre-paid postage if it actually gets used...so I liked making them pay it...but then I realized that my time was worth more to me than the 37 cents I was costing them...so I said fuck it.
