    Alexis Park Room Openings

    Hello

The Alexis Park just sent us a note to let us know that a block of 15 rooms have been released from a hold. If you are interested in getting a room at the AP, I suggest calling them right away.

    Good luck!

I doubt there is going to be any insightful discussion in this thread, so I'll throw in a "me too" post.

Thanks a lot, blackbeetle. My friends and I owe you a cold one.

People in the past have requested a room in a specific location, but I don't know if that is truly possible. According to the receptionist, although you can make requests about your room, the Alexis Park still gives them out on a first-come, first-serve basis.

              Are You Sure?

Are you sure? According to the hotel information page, rooms are $129 / night for a monarch room. I obtained a room through the same set of circumstances, and I received the advertised rate.

Perhaps you got a bigger room?

The rates don't get any worse than the Defcon rate.

                  Why is that?

I was going to state that the rates appear to be based on maximum room capacity (based on the Monarch pricing and an extra cost of $20 / person), but that doesn't hold true for the other rooms.

Is it because the convention requires a full staff 24 hours a day? Damage done by attendees? The assumption that people will split the cost with friends?

Or is it that they are guaranteed to book the entire weekend, so they might as well do what they damn well please?

Not that I mind terribly. It's capitalism. If I didn't want the room, I wouldn't have reserved one. I still wonder, though...

I was looking on expedia, and saw Alexis Park rooms as low as $55 a night for tues/wed night before the con. I called the hotel thinking, Id just get my other 2 nights at Alexis.

They told me, that if I reserved thru expedia, and people called to make reservations for Defcon, at the regular price, that my reservation would be bumped and I would be shuttled to one of 3 other locations.

They are STILL listed for $55 a night on Expedia.. for July 27 & July 29.
But remember, if they sellout at regular price, you will get bumped.
