Any news on whether gambling at Alexis Park will affect next years Defcon?

    http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/st...516925835.html

As you might know (or not) Alexis Park has been sold and will be turned into Condos in the next couple years. But the new owners are going to be putting in slots right away.

Is there any news on whether this will affect future Defcons?

what, you mean beside how it will make defcon... MORE awesome while keeping script kiddies from booking rooms?

From what I gathered in talking to the staff, the Casino will be located on what is now the Americana. It's going to get bulldozed in a couple of months.

The AP itself is getting a facelift:

        New Lobby
All new pools and concorse down the middle
Real room rennovations (unlike the crappy apaint and tinsel)
All new convention center behind the 2900 block
Remodeled current convention center (the Apollo lobby and hallway we saw are a sample of what we're in for)

On the Americana site will be a 15-20 story tower, that will have the Casino in it. It will either be a V or Tri shaped (classic vegas look of Manalay, Monte carlo, etc etc, but smaller). You'll have the resort side, and the casino side. They want to compete against Hardrock who is currently out of space and is also trying to expand as well.

If they do all this, I think Defcon will have PLENTY of room in the future. Work on this should have started last Monday. They're serious about keeping Defcon at the hotel. Hell, we put them on them back on the map.

I guess I was wondering if it would have any impact at all (I was told Defcon choose AP because it was a non-gambling property). From the the couple of comments it sounds like it might be a good thing.

At first it was due to the non-gambling aspect because that allowed people under 21 to rent rooms. The laws changed a few months ago so that people under 21 can now rent rooms at gambling hotels. That is why it doesn't affect us.

                      Ick. Stinky f*cking weasels.

Just bought a house where the previous owners had a ferret, I've spent the past month just trying to get rid of the ferret smell. I finally gave up and I pulled up all the carpeting.

well, I am 19 and have been going since I was 17 and have never had problems, I think if you can't either get them to give you a room underage or if you dont know anyone you need to attend your local dc-group more often.

I have to agree with ck here, the worthwhile <21's will find a way, I'll vouch for ck or TwinVega anytime. :)

Heh, the cool aspect is it will keep groups of little 17 and 18 year old script kiddies who are unconnected with the scene and just want to hang out with all the cool h4x0rs safely at home and out of our hair (you know, the kind that come on here and go t3ach m3 h0w 2 h4x)
