  • Electronic Jihad!

The crazy Russian that runs Kaspersky, makers of everyone's least favorite antivirus software, has predicted an electronic holy war will be waged on August 26th. The release was picked up by those bastions of factual and accurate reporting, The Inquirer, Slashdot, and eWeek.

Let's hope that in the event this is even remotely for real, they don't take any advice from this thread...

It sounds crazy to me, the stuff I've read has some good points, but I don't see that happening. Oh well, guess we'll see tommorrow right?

Can it be any worse than AOL, Microsoft, Script Kiddies, Fucktards and asshats on the Internet? It almost sounds to me like a public service.

I still have about 10 cases of powdered egg mix if you want some.
            Did Everquest teach you that?

Sorry for the noob-ness (and, yes this is my first post), but could you explain why this is your least favorite antivirus software. Google and forum search didn't find anything. :(
                Thanks in advance.

NAV, McAfee, and F-Prot are all far superior products. Deploying Kaspersky, especially on *IX mailservers, is a fucking bitch and a half.

And SURPRISE SURPRISE, Kaspersky the Russian douchebag was WRONG. No electronic jihad today, sorry. It's been dismissed as baseless hysteria.

What an idiot, he should be shot, not that I really thought or planned on that happening, but what the hell. Guess the underwear and jerkey will be put away until duty calls on them again.

DOnt forget AVG and BlackICe who make darn good AV. Zone Alarm would have been good if not for all the crap Permission settings

Didn't know Zone Alarm and BlackIce were anti-virus products. That's what I get for reading the directions on the box.

I guess now the dude can claim to have single handedly stopped the gee-hawd.

Correction primarily BlackIce is a Security FW but it does have AV support and I like it.

Yeah well that is BlackIce users problems that there software has bad access control restrictions.

                              ex.

injecting an overload in the firewall rule into C:Program Files/ISSBlackIce/BlackIce.ini

I believe there are 8 other exploits like this with BlackIce's (4) .ini files
(Security protocols has already released fixes for all these problems I believe)

As for ZoneAlarm and the rest I was not commenting on there FW's merely their Anti Virus defs. which I have used McAfee, Norton, AVG, ZoneAlarm, Peer Guradian, BlackIce and I like Norton the best. And any firewall is better than XPs standard FW which the majority of Xp Users think protects them. Not everyone is as knowledgeable of Security as you Oversight (no sarcasm intended and reading your posts you sound knowledgeable) and for many people basic FW is good to protect them against the Script Kids who are the only ones who need to mess over the basic household computer to be "l33t" in their minds. And basic firewall and AV protects the Adults from the kiddies to a degree.
