The monorail was definitely a low point of DC12. It was cheaper to split cab fare and more convenient than taking the monorail.

So I guess the cry of "Monorail, Monorail, Monorail, Monorail!" will take the place of, "Developers, Developers, Developers, Developers!"

The monirail is a bunch of crap (from a LV local perspective). They want like $6.00 to ride the stupid thing! What's more, you cannot use it as a transfer from LV's bus line, CAT, because it's not "associated" with CAT. This translates to "buy month pass from RTC (owner of 'CAT'), buy day pass for Monirail as well".

So why all the fuss about these being two seperate entities? GREAT QUESTION!! Why are two "public transit" systems not working togeather in one town? What's better is this: http://www.rtcsouthernnevada.com/mpo/monorail.htm . But hackajar, you may ask, 'Why does RTC put monorail on it's site, if they are not associated with each other?' Another Fu*King good question!!!

We use public funds to sponser a private monorail, that still charges up the ass for rides. They don't even give free passes to workers of Casnio's it connects to!!

Point in case: Don't ride monorail when your in Las Vegas, you will be supporting "The Man".

                /end crazy stupid rant

This is why I love the Washington DC metro system. You buy a pass for X dollars and are charged based on the time and distance you are in the system, which usually ends up being $1 - $2 for an average ride. Then, each time you ride the subway you can go to a machine that dispenses free bus transfers, and can ride the bus to your final destination from the metro station. That's not to mention the way the stations are designed... passengers exit the trains onto an island between the tracks and enter the trains from platforms opposite the island for each of the tracks, meaning that you don't end up with people trying to fight their way onto the train through crowds of people getting off, they can do both simultaneously without getting in each others' way.

As far as the Las Vegas monorail goes, it was indeed easier, more convenient, and cheaper to split a cab.

Personally I thought it was worth 2.75 to ride the length of the strip.
I rode from MGM to Sahara at the other end.. I was staying across from MGM, and traveling alone, in which case it was cheeper than a cab. It also seemed quicker than the bus.

I rode the trolly or whatever you call those damn touristy things one time. Took over an hour to travel from MGM to Sahara, it stopped at damn near every casino.
The buses are quicker than that, but still kinda slow.. How much are the buses now anyhow? havent rode one in 2 years.

Thing I thought sucked was the Monorail quits running at 11 or 12pm.

Even the cabs in DC are kind of cool. They have zones setup and each one has a price. I think the logest price/ride I saw was like 14 bucks.
