  • Anti-Piracy Solution

I've been looking at anti-piracy stuff lately(irony) but haven't come across anything that jumps out at me as being a good solution. The company I'm looking into this for doesn't have the time to spend writing something from scratch so here's my question...

Does anyone have any experience with anti-piracy measures, and if so, what do you recommend?

The best solution to stop pirates is the might of Her Majesty's Royal Navy. That'll stop those scurvy dogs.

      Anti Piracy with what medium?
      -Piracy on the Users End
      -Client-Server Overuse
      -Internet Piracy
      -Hard-Disk Loading
      -Software Counterfeiting

I assume software because you stipulated it was for a company that needs a good anti piracy program to package with their software or intellectual property. I know the Business Software Alliance markets anti piracy measures for clients and member companys. Other than that I am sure that Game development companies have developed many new ways to counter software piracy so a search of their methods might be profitable. Also alot of the time a good activation requirement for the software is valuable.

Hope I helped you out though I doubt any of this is new to you.
      Did Everquest teach you that?

I'll have to check with the SBA, and I hadn't thought of game companies.

As far as hardware solutions, that creates a lot of overhead.

The anti-piracy warning on the Haxxxor video was extremely effective. The rest of the film was also extremely effective in causing me to wash out my eyes with bleach, so YMMV.

Yeah the people who design games for a living are on the cutting edge of Anti Piracy Technology as far as I am concerned. I have made it a hobby of mine of researching the different methods companies use to protect their property.

Hey Grifter, I'm not sure what type of piracy you're looking at dealing with. However, if it is something software related I recommend using "Product activation".

While "Product activation" is not an end all it does help with complies on license agreements, ensuring that the software that is being used is genuine and deter casual copying. Like I said it's not an end and it may cause users to complain and whatnot (Think MS Office 2000), because they will be required to "activate" the product, either by phone or the Internet before they can start to use the product. Also, just like anything else that's out there if there is a will to get it, I'm sure someone will come up with the way to get it.

As for other anti-piracy measures; copyrights and trademarks may not stop piracy but they do give the owner legal rights to go after someone for taking, reproducing, or likewise of their work/product.
