  • 2 Q's - proxies and DBNull error

Hi everyone. Found your forums a few months back after googling something like "flaming pile of shit forums". Hehh.. well no offense intended at all. I actually got a lot of respect for real hackers after buying a few 2600 issues, just wanted to share that random goodness. Anyhow..thanks if you can help and sorry if I am being too stupid/noob/annoying.

    ---

    1. If you google for something like "free proxy" there are a bunch of sites with a bunch of IP's and ports, listed as transparent, anon, highly anon. Related to the problem #2, I actually used a few of these recently. I put the proxy's info into my LAN settings through windows CP. What I am wondering is: Do you feel that sites like these are reliable/safe? What other steps would one take to use the web anonymously? - Plugging in what someone lists as a highly anonymous proxy just seems too simple.

    ----

    2. I like to play a certain free online game called Maple Story. About 4 days ago, that company added servers in the US. They also started requiring users to edit their personal info and use a login instead of email address. A lot of US people are getting errors and a lot of foreign users have been OK. I will paste the error at the end of my message..I want to know if there is anything that can be done to access that page or we simply need to wait and wait for them to fix their database.

Some of the error page is in Korean, so I will just give the coding. If anyone wants though I could link a screenshot.

When you use a proxy, you're routing all of your traffic through someone else's box. This someone else can do whatever they choose with that traffic. If you don't know the owners well enough to trust it, you're stupid for using it.

well.. first off, you mustn't have been googling when you found us, which is for nothing but shame. Google does not have a single index referring to 'flaming pile of shit forums' and defcon. However, if you got our link by browsing one of the other 5,860 indices of crappy forums, then kudos... I tend to think you've just lurked here long enough to realize these forums are a flaming pile of shit.

Question Numeral 1: Let me set up a proxy for you to use. There have been several attempts at creating truly anonymous proxies, r.i.p. JAP for its trojaned source, or the more recent Tor.

Question Numeral 2: They probably outsourced development of the game. .. and yes, if you wait the game will eventually be back, even though I can understand wanting to log on earlier than most other players to gain an advantage that compensates for your lack of ability to play the game as well as others. InvalidCastException.
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

I definately googled you guys directly the first time and defcon wasn't in the search text. Maybe it was "fucking retard" or something like that that came up in one of the posts. This time I think I just searched "defcon forum". I had not lurked in that time interval, but maybe I will now.

I will pass on you setting up a proxy for me converge(scared). I have never heard of the JAP and Tor you speak of, but it is not surprising that a truly anon proxy would be hard. I am not actually worried about the anonymity because I don't invade systems or do anything illegal. I understood the basic concept of the proxy passing through someone elses machine and that there are risks involved in it. The real reason I was using it was to spoof my country. Well it has to do with that game.. It has been in Korea and Japan for a couple of years and just recently went to a Global(English) Edition. When they brought the servers to the US they decided to split the "global" part of the game up into regions. There are servers in Korea for the players from Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia and servers in Cali for the rest of the players. A lot of people are mad because they are going to lose touch with the friends that they have made. The company threatens a ban for using the wrong servers. I have not finished my expiriment yet, but it seems like they restrict based on the country you register as. I thought it possible that they would restrict access to each server or detect offending accounts by a block IP ban of certain countries and that if you spoof your country of origin you could visit the other servers.

It is not a .NET game, but the website seems to use it. About half of players seem able to use their old accounts and the other half can only play by making a new account. Most of those with success have some sort of non english version of windows, so I thought it might be some Asian vs American .NET thing. Since that code doesn't make much sense to me, I am still guessing that it is a problem in their database which has no solution for players.

Finally, converge... I do not understand the whole wanting to gain an advantage to compensate for my lack of skills. Maple Story is a MMO-Super Mario style 2d platforming-RPG. There is very little skill involved besides optimising the path for character development and choosing equips and then the jumping quests. I hate when people assume shit, so I won't assume you were implying that I suck at that game and feel the need to cheat; however, if you want to test my skills just message me for a race. My temp char is named Ill0.

          Obviously casting isn't working. ;)

.net, the answer is in the question.

It sounds like any old proxy is fine for you then.. if you're just playing a game, your not really transmitting anything valuable; only your characters auth could be compromised through the remote server.

Now.. my assumption was that there is a ladder or saved character data involving bragging rights or better playing abilities for having a more advanced character. Pardon me if this is incorrect. Why not just create a new character then?... or wait like the rest for the bug to be corrected? .. or both?
