Proxy Servers

Hello again, I hope I`m not banned
How do I write a proxy server for the network I administrate, personalized to my own needs. It is something that a client will request, connect to the LAN Proxy server, then this server will create a new connection to where he needs (i think...). But it has to be something standard (mIRC, Yahoo messenger, Opera, Maxthon and Internet Explorer should work in the same time) for these programs to acctually connect. I just don't know how the standard is called (if it exists one - or I`m to stupid). Tried googleing it, but nothing usefull for me came out. Does anyone knows a list of commands. Stuff like
FORWARD [IP] - connects the client to an external IP
CLOSE - closes current connection
LOGIN - asks for username
etc, etc...

Use google and add the keyword "SOCKS" or "HTTP Proxy" along with "networking."

Proxy servers are very common and have been around for a long time. It is hard to believe that you would not have found something with google when searching for "proxy server" and "networking."

Thanks, but I do not need a prebuilt one, i want to make my own, that is the way i really consider something usefull.
I am looking for the protocol of proxy servers, so Internet Explorer (example) or and IRC Client (another client) should connect to my proxy server. I just don't know the protocol. And don't know either what RFC should I look after.

Again... If you used google with the above keyword "socks" you could have added "rfc" and found the first google hit:
RFC 1928 -- SOCKS Protocol Version 5

You metion "rfc." You had keyword "socks."

Your lack of ambition to search for this on your own leaves me unimpressed.

thank you for your patience and kindness.
yes i have lost my ambition to search since most of it generated only rfc's. I am not that smart to read from a rfc and understand everything (the rfc on IRC explains more how servers are organized and less about actual IRC commands - what I need, stuff like USER, NICK, JOIN, PART etc). I am more inerested in the actual session. (almost forgot, I learned IRC from a session (/debug @raw under mIRC shows traffic).

Dude... I was being sarcastic. My point was that there is A LOT of very useful software out there which has already been developed. You cannot evolve if you are continually reinventing the wheel. Take what exists and improve it. Don't try to reinvent something that already has a well-implimented solution.
