Defcon 13 - Official announcement

I think that DefCon is one of those rare things where it stays one step ahead of market trends:Originally posted by nulltoneArg! Not again....I thought this "DEFCON" fad woulda worn off by now.
First it is announced, but then becomes popular. Then it is unofficially cancelled by attendees in the forums, and that becomes popular as an unofficially cancelled event, and then, like a rave, it is re-scheduled using a secret date and location-- only told to a select few who are smart enough to figure it out.
It is good that the secret is so well kept from the masses; what would happen if they figured out the truth?
I am glad to see there are those who work hard to keep this secret in the forums. Proof? Watch. Someone will post a question asking about DC13 being cancelled.Last edited by TheCotMan; December 26, 2004, 18:01.Comment

Just a quick question. This year I will be staying at AP and my family will be staying With me, including our newborn(due in june) and our 5 yo daughter, now with morals set aside am I going to need a DefCon admission for my daughter? She in most cases will be hanging with mom in the room or checking out vegas but she does like computers and would probably like some of the daytime activities of defcon, just wondering if there is an age cutoff or maybe a childs addmission rate?If there is a Church of WiFi, then this is it's !Comment

I being my family too, they just hang by the pool and there is no problem with that. Mind you the secuyrity guards are not the brightest bulbs so you should keep a room key or something on you that shows you are staying at the hotel.
As far as morals go at Defcon, your newborn ought to be safe. :>Comment

Just my personal opinion, your marriage might be better off if you stay next door. The noise level of the AP isn't really conducive to getting small children to sleep. The rooms at the front of the St. Tropez are just as close to the talks as the back rooms at the AP, but your family will be much less likely to leave you stranded in Vegas if you book there instead.Originally posted by kreeJust a quick question. Thanks for the concern, but being that this will be our third DefCon we have made our decision to stay on grounds this year to indulge in all that Defcon has to offer including the noise. More than likely though I will have the little one's durring the day while she rest.Originally posted by octalpusJust my personal opinion, your marriage might be better off if you stay next door. This is kinda the plan, good to see we won't be the only one's. I'm sure that kicking back will be one of her priorities after the baby come's.Originally posted by astcellI being my family too, they just hang by the pool and there is no problem with that. Hey, I hear you. I dont think she is ready to soak in an hour of "automotive networks" at this time maybe in a couple of years but for now it's more of an introduction to DefCon. Just mostly walking around with dad and definately some wifi games participation.Originally posted by Kelvinif she isn't going to any of the talks then i wouldnt worry about getting her a badge.... and ignore the disclaimer...

The AP, during Defcon, is no place for children. I'm kind of horrified that anyone would even consider it. I've long been a proponent of checking ID to issue a human badge and keeping people under 18 off the premises.Originally posted by kreeJust a quick question. So, do tell, when your child comes up and asks you to explain pool2girl "daddy, why is that lady letting all those people put things up her butt?" what will your response be? I realize that pool2girl wasn't a sanctioned con event but 85% of what happens after hours is not officially sanctioned. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.Comment

I just tried to book the 29th-31st @ AP and they said they were all sold out
I called 1-800-297-0144 (a booking agent). Does anyone have a better phone number
for me to call? This will be my 1st DC and I want to stay at AP and get to have the full experience if ya know what I mean...Comment
