The only way for your skills so become more refined is to do it yourself. Hanging out here hoping that you will become better just by association is like throwing a katana at a big rock and hoping that it will become sharper. Sure, its possible... but only if you spend the time figuring out the right angle at which to throw the katana, the right velocity, and making sure no innocent bystanders are hanging around to a: get hit when you fuck it up or b: laugh at you when you fuck it up. Spending the time making measurements, calculations, and setting up police issue "Do Not Cross" tape is what refines your skills.
In much the same way, you can read every post here written by every infosec professional any of us may know, and you still wont know anything more than how to read. The only thing that can refine anything is by reading what others have to say, figuring out how to do it, figuring out how to change it, and then moving forward with whatever changes you have.
</rant>Of course its fully cooked... we had it set on "linen".Comment

I came here looking for information about Defcon at first. The first thread I posted on had a bunch of people complaining about fucktards. I figured I'd be banned as a fucktard like I had seen other people had. I wasn't, and now I have some good friends because of this board.
Alas...kidlinux, I hardly knew thee.The dude abides.Comment

I lurked. Then I joined, and now i'm lurking again. I learn more doing this than I would pretending to know what i'm talking about. Thank you all for letting me secretly read your minds for the past two years.Know when it's been a long night and it's approaching early morning and you're staring at the screen and suddenly you flinch and jump as if something's moved in front of you. What the hell is that?Comment

No really though, welcome to the party! Please tell me when I'm going to die, being as you've been reading my mind for two years."Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People in Large Groups"Comment

When I first tried to read minds at DefCon, I had a desire to set myself on fire and run naked through laundrymats with hamsters duct taped to my thighs, and one of those beer hats loaded with double Guiness.Originally posted by hackajarINo really though, welcome to the party! Reading minds can be dangerous with DefCon people.
In other news, this poll is scheduled to close in less than 24 hours.Comment

I'd like to apologize for that. "alt.sex.bestiality.hamster.duct-tape" seemed like such a good idea at the time...Originally posted by TheCotManwith hamsters duct taped to my thighsComment

That is the thing about lurkers: you never know of their existance. Although most of them are probably inactive, the Members List of this forum is quite impressive.Originally posted by TheCotManResult are what I expected except for the popularity of "I lurked for a long time..." selection; I thought this would be one of the lower scoring items.Comment
