  • Robots: Who's Competing + Status?

Defcon is now 102 days away! What's the status on anyone working on a bot?

We're trying to get an idea of how many people will be fielding entries so that we can properly plan for good prizes and such.

    So, please sound off with:

    Team name:
Bot status: (short description of how far along you are)

And if you need any advice for parts, software, etc. please let us know, odds are that someone has the answer :)

I suddenly find myself with some free time, so I am considering the option of doing a build. I'll probably decide by this weekend.

        My suggestions:

        1) use an off the shelf platform to move around
        2) Use a sweeper or roller or something simple to pick up the balls into a hopper
        3) use a slingshot, catapult, air cannon, etc to shoot the balls. Fix the barrel angle and move the bot to aim.

I'd also suggest starting with r/c (no ai) and getting the mechanicals working, then work on any ai parts.

http://acroname.com for robot kits/parts/etc (though they're kinda spendy)

Or just go insane, start with an AI walker, and have it throw the balls with little robotic hands driven by musle wire ;)

Well last year I hyped my daughter up on making a barbie bot and so guess what some how dad's gotta come up with some barbiebot, probably something very simple and last minute to introduce her to the fundamentals of robotics. But just to let you all know I am brainstorming, or in the design phaze.

No team name but we have the controller, some sensors, and most of the mechanics worked out. We have tested the our pick up and shoot system. Should start actually building the final bot in about a month.

                  initial assembly and testing

No team name yet, mechanical design complete, initial programming complete, waiting for time to assemble and load the software. Then to make it look good....

Awesome, looks like we'll have a competitive event this year :) If anyone wants me to put up pictures of your bot, email them to kallahar@quickwired.com and I'll put them up on robotwarez.org

We don't have a team name yet, however our bot status is at the design and implementing stage.
