Hmmm, the local cops in Golf here have hubcaps, of course the town is less than a square mile and I can't think of the last high speed chase.

I took this photo at DC11 in front of the Riviera. There was a truck pulling out from Circus Circus with a bunch of sign poles in the back, but also were the numerous antennas.

2 6' cb antennas, one on each side of the truck, 3 smaller ones on the toolbox/rack, and of course the fm antenna. Two of the smaller ones seemed to be cell antennas.

I'll have to see if I still have the photo of the minivan I took a while back. It makes this guy and the porcupine car look like rank amateurs: there probably wasn't more than a square foot of open roofspace left in total, the damn thing had so many antennas on it.

And I love the 'Illegal to pass on right' legend on the back of the truck - that might be the case in Illinois (where he's from, judging from the stickers), but here in California it's perfectly legal. Besides, what the hell are you doing all the way over to the left when other traffic wants to get by?

This isn't always true, sometimes cop cars have hubcaps.

Totally useless flashy trash.
You'll loose them on the first hard corner anyway.
When you do loose them, that sonofabitch Lieutenant will make you pay for them. (LTs are like that.)

I've seen the interior of cruiser once or twice. Ranks/assignments I've had are:
Officer (Uniform)
Detective/Juvenile (Officer Grade)
Corporal (Uniform)
Acting Chief of Police
Sergeant (Uniform)
Detective Sergeant
Detective Lieutenant
Lieutenant (Uniform)
Rated as a Class I (Homicide) Investigator by the VT OCME.

Oh, and 5 years doing major crime scene work for the state Forensic Lab.

So I know how much of an SOB both Sergeants and Lieutenants can be.

Perhaps this is an issues of "necessary" vs. "sufficient" as the clause that could cloud the issue. (If vs. if and only if.)

Given: If A, then B
A= No hubcaps on a car.
B= That car is a cop car.

However, denying the antecedent (claiming there are hubcaps) does not imply there is no cop car:
Fallacy: (Denying the Antecedent):
"If it's raining, then the streets are wet.
It isn't raining.
Therefore, the streets aren't wet."

My favorite fallacy of the moment is Non Sequitur:

I knew the truth about Santa Claus as far back as I can remeber. I similairly knew about the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny. However, when I was very young, and confronted my parents about the Tooth Fairy, they said, "Fine. The Tooth Fairy is Dead." (Literal quote.)

Great. No more money for losing teeth.

I did learn from that though. I continued to believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny, and nearly any other mythical figure that meant I would get more stuff. ]:>

Regarding antenna's and mounts for 2m/70cm, you're probably better off going with an NMO mount. I've had good luck with comtelcos 2m/70cm dual bander it's small so onlookers don't bust out laughing as you drive by.

On the other hand if you were looking for something a a little more ham sexy, the J-pole idea does work well (I use one myself from arrow antenna's).

If you have your license and google a bit you can easily find out the standard accepted freq to use for local sqauwking, anywhere you go.

It does not mean everyone will be on that freq, but it is a good start.
