What's your "must see" presentation? Suggestions for new DC people?

Everyone has a different background and level of knowledge in their chosen specialization, and there are many good topics across the board, but which one is on the top of your list, and why?

If you knew someone was attending DefCon for the first time, and may not have much experience, what two presentations would you suggest they see? Why?

Heyyy! We met before... *Twice* Once in the Vendor room, and once at the Forum Meet. You were the only person with a Press Badge that I spoke to, during the whole DefCon.

Presentations for People new to DefCon with llittle experience:
First, I'd suggest one of the two lockpicking/lock presentations:

Why? It is a gentile introduction to physical security, and much of what we find in System Security, Network Security and Cryptography can be understood with the art of lockpicking as a simple metaphor.

I'll need more time to come up with a second suggestion for people new to DefCon with little experience, and my "must see" presentation. :-)

For new people I would suggest the Defcon Forums Meet, the Toxic BBQ and Hanging out by the pool on Thursday Night.

The Forensic Tools. I always believe in "Know thy Enemy". j/k But I have found that for people new to hacking often have no idea what tools are used to reveale their exploits. By taking a look they can often get a better idea of hwo to properly cover their footsteps.

I do agree with HighWizard that they should attend the socials to get a better feel for the community.

I would suggest picking out one contest and take part in it. it's a great way to meet people and one of the best ways to learn. For example, even if you know nothing about war driving it will give you the chance to talk about it with some of the best (and renderman too)

also, the best suggestion that I can give to Das Noob's is; buy a goon a drink. Not because you want to suck up. NOT because ou want a friend for life. but because they deserve it, and if you do it early and offten then the chances are better that in your mind you will be more apt to see them as friends, so when they are "asking" you "nicley" to stop what it is that you are doing you might comply a wee bit faster... and that makes a world of difference.

I think there was one last year (DC12.) I think I attended it, and asked a question of the FBI guy that seemed to get him a bit upset. I don't know why. O:-)

I know that feeling... They all sort of meld together and it can be hard to remember which DefCon had which event.

Lots of good ideas in this thread for new users. Limiting it to presentations was a bad idea. I am glad that HighWizard and Siviak suggested both social events and competitions. Great stuff!
