It's confirmed that today is a FREAKIN HOT day. Called my friend who is a nurse to come see my son, as I was concerned over the heat. Didn't want to take him to his doctor in it.

Blah, lets hope that the weather cools down a bit in Vegas before we all start to show up. </wishful thinking>

I don't want to have anymore of my sandals melt while wearing them by pool 1 this year like they did last year.

right before the rain hit, one of the vegas locals (Patty Walsh, who's speaking this year) told me that there's nothing like the smell of a desert rain storm. she was right, too. i stood outside and was completely blown away by it. didn't know about the flooding, tho.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. Yeah, met her, she seemed nice.

I walked out of my hotel room after the rain and said: "What is that Smell?" and some other people said: "Dude...that's Vegas when it rains."

are you sure that was caused by the heat and not the water in the pool itself?

i'm willing to bet that it would have been the heat, actually, since i melted a pair of birks at DC9 and no water was around me. it was my second defcon but i'd never seen the vegas strip, so some of us walked to it from the alexis. my sandals had a lot of miles on them already, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back. by the end of the con i had holes developing all over them, my toes were poking through at the tips, and i had to pronounce them pretty much dead when i got back home. thankfully i had a pair of boots with me, but they were really hot. vegas pavement is a killer, man.

Speaking of hydration, anyone have experience with this water pack?

$44 for a 100oz pack looks like a pretty good deal...

I have one of those for biking and hiking and they work really well. Just make sure you rinse well when you are done with it, after a while a foul taste develops if you don't. You can replace the bladder when it gets to that point.

                        *Lemon juice*

Put a tiny bit of lemon juice in the water. It'll keep the foul taste from developing and leave you citrus-charged all day. Or something like that.

The heat had a lot to do with it, but I also blame it on the fact that I bought $2.99 Walmart sandals.

Yes, but I recomend that if you plan on buying it online that you stay away from REI and go with BackCountry, you'll find that they are easier to deal with and have lower prices.

It works pretty good, and if you add some ice to it, you will have great cold water for long time, if the heat of the desert is way too extreme, you may want to insulate the blader with some coton balls... about the smell, well you should not have a problem with that if you let it dry open and get ride off any remains of water before store it. However if you do have a small problem, take a cup of water and add two spoons of baking soda (NaHCO3) rinse with it, then a filled out with water, add some lemon to it. let it sit for 15 min. (average) rinse twice, and complete the cicle by drying out all the water. after about an hour, it should be good to use again... in the worst escenario... replace the blader.
