Yes, pocket rockets, if you will, are all the rage out here. You can pick one of those up at local Auto Parts store, that's right Auto Parts, for $150-$300 depending on engine size, and hick level

$150? Try closer to $2000. I hate the fucking things, they are very unsafe. Parents out here were buying them for the kids and letting them zip around on the streets with out helmets or anything. And no adult looks cool on one, ever.

I did think it was kida cute when I first saw them. Some website had pics of little kids in japan racing them on little race tracks. The kids had litting racing suits and everything.

Yet another example where the Japanese make some activity look cute, but Americans pulling off the same thing just like morons. There has to be some theory out there to explain this phenomena...

Different bikes, the $2000 ones, or "mini-bikes,"(Yamaha YSR 50 to name one), can be safely driven and raced on tracks, as they were built to much of the same specs at full size streetbikes, including all the safety and required street tech. The new "pocket bikes" are built to look like the mini-bikes, but are usually running hopped up lawnmower engines, with no brakes, turn signals, properly built fluid reservoirs, etc. As such they are a lot cheaper, and a hell of a lot more dangerous. In Houston they've passed laws against them on public streets, as there have been lots of accidents with kids on them. The reason they had to pass a law is that legally they could fall under ATV statutes, which Houston allows on _some_ roads.

Anyway, sorry for the continued hijack
