Ok. In many ways I agree with Deviant. In many ways I agree with Spahkle. In many ways I know exactly why Squidly1 is maintaining that position.

Even if your employer is not constantly screening your ass for second hand bubble gum resin, keep in mind that others at defcon are viewing your actions and the actions of others you accompany. There are many eyes, both fed and non-fed. Many non-fed eyes are friends with fed eyes, whether they know it or not, whether you know it or not. Even take out the

Even if you are not doing the drug of choice, or may never have, it can be perceived that you do because of the crowd you hang out with. In my case, rooming and hanging with one of my friends (that freely smokes pot) at the AP gave another friend the impression that I was also smoking pot. I do not fault any of the friends involved, but word got around that I smoked pot at defcon and resulted in negatively effecting my chances for a great job opportunity later on.

If you're ok with the drugs, cool. If you do the drugs, whatever does it for you. Just keep in mind what image you portray of yourself if you care about the image others see.
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

Deviant Ollam: I'm up for a cocktail. You going to theSummit? I'll meet you there if you're going. As far as the BBQ goes, I keep kosher so eating what's being grilled will probably will be a no-go (but thanks). I'll learn at the feet of a master if he/she has a new trick up their sleeve ; ).

Last year I just went vegetarian for the duration. But you have piqued my interest about the "toxic" side of the BBQ (looks worried). Have to read up on that...

Woot - I might have found a room (at another hotel). Thanks all : )

You might consider hooking up with AbbyNormal via PM or email if you want to attend the BBQ and go veggie. (she brought up the veggie grill a ways down in the toxicbbq watcha bringn' thread) It sounds like there is more interest this year. The only catch is you would be stuck next to people cooking meat, so some level of tolerance is needed.

http://toxicbbq.com... or read the bbq thread. good times.

Ahhhh, this is where the commentary to my room lodge begging went : ).

Well, unfortunately, my flight arrives late on the day of the BBQ (something to plan for next year). But, I will be at theSummit later that night - for those who might be attending that event.

For the rest of the Con I plan to wear a grey PJ bottom with cartoony skulls and crossbones all over it. Chances are - nobody else will be there with that on. But, ya never know... I thought I would be the only one with an Amiga "deathbed vigil" shirt, but there was one other fellow with the SAME shirt on the SAME day I had mine on last year. I'm also bringing my DefCon7 and 12 shirts (and wearing whatever else I buy at this year's Con). Makes packing easy. The last day just involves a run to the post office to mail off the plastic bag of goodies that don't fit in my laptop bag.

          Cya at the Con.

Now this is what I call travelling light. Add about a dozen piece of clothings (pair of socks count as one) and you've got what I lived on for over two months a few years ago ;-).
