  • Music for next year?

evrery year defcon is blessed with sevral dj's who donate there time and audio for the cause. this past year i spent most of days 1 and 2 in the contest hall (since i was running a contest :P). while we where there, to kill some of the aquard silences we played some music on our exceptinaly crappy monitor speakers. this later grew into (yo man there is NO music in this room, bump that shit!). so my sugestion for defcon 14 would be why not set up an OFFICIAL defcon internet radio station that way anybody with speakers could simply plug in to the defcon ap and whala, music for the masses :P.

There is a Defcon radio station. DMZ runs it. He has made multiple posts about it on these forums. "Search" is your friend. And it's "viola", not "whala".

      Because there is one.

      Al

And thankfully, it's not all techno 24/7

Please do! I must have been in The Wrong Place at The Wrong Time (vendor area, that is), but about all I heard this year was some kinda elderly-friendly-new-age waltz crap. No offense to those who apparently like that kinda, uh, stuff.. Sure coulda used some industrial or even techno played out loud.
DC12 and previous had "that guy in the vendor area" with a collection that included Skinny Puppy, Ministry, KMFDM, etc. etc. I miss the chill-out room with DJs

Since I'm bitching: WTF was up with $7.00 for a Red Bull & vodka?

Same guy, Shadowvex. He has been spinning in the vendor area since at least DefCon 9. He decided to play some more laid back stuff this year and I think it worked out well. Myabe not your cup of tea...but honestly...I have to be in the Vendor Area 8-10 hours a day and if I had to listen to mother fucking Skinny Puppy I'd slit my damn wrists.

I've only been to DC 10-13, but this is the first time I've ever heard someone complain about not having enough techno music...

lol i was just wondering cus me and the rest of dc949 (contest room) had our own mix of happy hardcore and other random forms of techno playing and finaly the other groups said it wasn't loud enough :P. so we ended hooking into the mixer and useing the pa's that where there for lp con

Walk to the corner and buy a fifth of good stuff and a Sobe No Fear. Thirty bucks and you'll see your personal god.
is it bad that the big monkey has a knife?

Since I am not into the stuff most DJs play I guess I just miss out. Ohh well give me Black Flag and Rancid any day and throw in a little Queen in there now and then.
                        Did Everquest teach you that?

im sure you are not alone... i think the music at defcon is just one of those things where it's a staple you know? it just kinda comes with the territory, techno and hacking :P. i understand where you are commin from though... i am a jazz man myself (amongst other things)
