  • Is the universe really just one big computer?

That's what Seth Lloyd, a quantum computing researcher at MIT tries to argue in this paper:

    http://arxiv.org/abs/quant-ph/0110141

    His conclusions?

The universe can have performed no more than 10120 ops on 1090 bits.

Damn Bascule, thats two in one week.... are you trying to make a statement?
If I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.

He's one of the many people trying to stumble upon a Unified Field Theory by taking the universe-from-scratch approach.

If any of these people actually do succeed in duplicating anything from the Standard Model, then yes, they'll be the next Einstein.
