  • Pay to park?

When walking around the Riviera, we noticed they have signs like this saying $20 for parking for non hotel guests et. al. There seems to be a few of these signs and appropriate traffic control devices in the area. This goes against the "free parking because it is Vegas" logic but this still begs the question- will non-hotel guest con-goers be charged for parking?

If they are, there really isn't much stopping them from parking at another casino with free parking and walking a block or two. Was this in the valet or self-park area, by the way?

Corner of one of the self-park structures, closest to the convention area

*Shrug* well, ya got me. I live in LA, so dodging paid parking by walking a block or two is a part of life for me. Can't remember ever being charged for self-parking at any casino, though. I suspect this may be a CYA move on the casino's behalf to stop people suing when they tow abandoned or broken down cars, though.

It was not displayed- just in a corner as a sign they roll out at certain times. Just thought this should be in the DC14 FAQ if it will be a extra possible charge.

Most hotels really don't care. I think those signs are for use when they have a convention or something they know will draw a large crowd. Charging for non-guest parking adds to the revenue stream and keeps paying guests happy (and free parking during the even might be seen as a perk to staying at the hotel).

I can't honestly say I've ever been charged for parking at a vegas hotel. They don't want to do anything to dissuade people from coming in and spending money. I would'nt park there for a week unattended though...

Now the airport on the otherhand will charge you out the ass...

I once parked in one of those parking lots while waiting for someone and the parking attendant wanted money from me on the spot. Seems Vegas does have it's seedy section.

When I went to a downtown hotel/casino as a non-paying-guest, (Frontier? 4 Queens? Over around there IIRC) I parked in a parking structure that was "free" if validated.
Validation only required going to a desk to get someone to stamp a card, but if you did not do this, it was not free.

Also, added tacitus statement on risk for no free parking to the unofficial expected frequently asked questions (faq).

Ah, I had not considered non-strip hotels. Downtown hotels I can see doing that, but not the Riviera (and other 'strip' hotels).

To clarify my statement; I've never seen a *Strip* hotel charge for parking

I've parked many times in the Riviera's self-parking structure. I've never had to pay a cent for it.

Don't. Just don't. You clearly speak English, so you have no excuse for not using it correctly. This SMS-speak bullshit does not fly around here (check some other threads if you don't believe me), and is not tolerated. Hell, there's even a section in The Rules covering this, which, had you read them, you'd be aware of:

                        5. Abbreviated English, ‘SMS’-speak, or ‘leet-speak

The official language on this board is English. If you want to be taken seriously you need to communicate clearly. Now, some of our users aren’t native English speakers. This is fine. If you don’t speak English, do your best and people will help you. The people this section is directed to are the people that make posts like ‘ne1 evr heer ov a hack 2 break teh windoze? LOL’. Its embarrassing when users from eastern Europe come here and speak better English than 16 year old High School students from Illinois. Also, how you type is your only way to put any sort of personality into your posts. ‘if u type lik diz’ you are basically saying ‘I am dumb, please do not pay any attention to me, in fact please ban me as soon as possible since I bring nothing to the table’. If you type like a big boy, you will be treated like one. Oh, and contrary to popular beliefs AlTeRnAtInG CaPs are not the sure way to fame.

It pisses me off that people can't type the two extra characters required to properly complete the word 'you'. Oh, and there's no 'f' in the word 'with'. You're not on a baudot teletype; waste the bandwidth for the sake of not making yourself look like a moron.

Clearly he speaks the English prevalent in high schools these days. For further reference I direct anyone to myspace.com where every high school kid has a voice... kind of makes me wish we dealt in selective breeding.

More disturbing than the lack of anything resembling English is the lack of anything resembling legibility. Blue text on a blue image background with a million JPEGs and animated GIFs scattered bloody everywhere for no apparent reason whatsoever.

I recall someone linking me to their page, to which I responded "Oh, so THAT'S what happens when teletubbies explode!"

That person stopped talking to me after I said that :)

What I find the most amusing is when clearly under-age boys and girls post pictures of themselves consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana to be cool and then never see it coming when they get in trouble.
