  • home-built vibrating lockpick link

A buddy sent me this link on a home made vibrating lock pick. I have not made one of these, but thought it was worthy of mention:

    http://www.inventgeek.com/Projects/l.../lockpick.aspx

I asked my buddy where he found it and he does not remember. I tried a search on google for link: but found no referrers, and nothing on /. about it using keywords "lockpick" and "lock pick"

    Enjoy!

It was likely via Digg.com, http://digg.com/mods/DIY_Lockpicking_device.

it's a neat idea, and one i've played with in the past (in my experience, the force isn't delivered with enough outward force, since a true pick gun just slaps in one direction, while electric tooth brushes waggle back and forth, thus unsteadying the process a bit.)

however, a strange choice by the person who cobbled it together was their option to stick a hook pick (used for pin-by-pin picking) on the end of their device...

a typical pick gun is topped with a single wand or needle arm... the idea is not to rap and bang into one pin stack at a time, but rather to slap all of the key pins at once, causing the top pins to jump up.

all in all, still a very neat hardware hack.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."
