  • DC801 site defacement?

When I visited the DC801 URL I found a simple page with links to porn sites.

Tell me this is a defacement please.

Looks like the whois information of dc801.org shows it is owned now by someone with an address in the czech republic, and their record was last updated 12-Jan-2006 12:21:44 UTC.

http://www.completewhois.com/ only shows back until Jan 20, at this time, and I don't see caches before Jan 12.

http://defcontv.org/ still appears to be up.

dc801.net and dc801.com seem to be available.

The link to DC 801 goes to a travel site with numerous popups.

I mean no disrespect nor do I want to insult your intelligence, but is it possible you have a browser hijacker? Do you browse with IE?

Again, I ask with the assumption that this isn't the case.

I use Firefox and IE (carefully, I just don't do stupid things). Are you getting a different result when you go to

          http://www.defconsandiego.org/ ?

I'm getting a placeholder travel page.

yes, it's a redirect powered by searchportal.information.com, typical of a domain squatter setup that appears when ownership expires.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

              Ok so:
              http://www (dot) defconsandiego (dot) org/
Goes to to a travel page and
              http://www (dot) dc801 (dot) org/
Goes to a porn advertising page.
(URL's broken because I don't want to linkback to these sites and increase their google ranking.)

Any other dc801 sites in Utah?
(Utah has a San Diego?yahoo maps)

              [Added:]
Looks like the DefConGroups Page has the link for dc801 as the dc801 (dot) org site.

Looks like http://rootcompromise.org/ is still "there" too.

Also looks like http:// breaking-url scavengerhunt breaking url) .org/ is still "there" too but is ~ 2 years outdated. (2004, but no 2005 or 2006 planning.)

              Humor:
Will the "real" Defcon please stand up? (heh)

I think that the domain just expired.

dc801 is still arround and working on things for dc14.

Actually, this one went down about a week before DC13 when the domain expired and was snatched up. The asshole that took it went and grabbed an old copy from archive.org or something and hid a bunch of advertising links in it.

That sucks. I've edited my post to break the url to that page, so as to not increase thier score with search engines.
