  • Lost password? Account Deletion? Can't post anymore?

    Lost/Forgot my password:
If you have lost your password, but still have access to the e-mail account associated with that forum account, you can reset your password (https)

NOTE: If you lost your password AND you don't have access to the email account associated with the forum account, we won't help you. Best you can do is let us know you forgot your password and can't access the e-mail account for the forum account, so we can disable that account, and you can create a new one. (Assuming the account was not banned.)

    Account Deletion:
If an account has a ZERO postcount, and has been UNUSED for 2 YEARS, that account may be deleted without warning.

If an account has a ZERO postcount AND appears to be a "one-time-use" account AND has been UNUSED for over 1 YEAR , that account may be deleted without warning.

If an account has a ZERO postcount, and is configured to include an UNCONFIRMED EMAIL ADDRESS, that account may be deleted without warning.

If an account has a ZERO postcount, and is configured to include an UNCONFIRMED EMAIL ADDRESS, and the confirmation e-mail message to the email address associated with the account bounces, that account may be deleted without warning.

    Account disabling:
Any forum account configured with an UNCONFIRMED EMAIL ADDRESS will be unable to post messages or PM-- meaning that account is disabled.

So long as an UNCONFIRMED EMAIL ADDRESS account is not deleted, the user of that account may still login and edit their account e-mail address (https)

Any forum account with a validated e-mail address is automatically configured as an UNCONFIRMED EMAIL ACCOUNT any time the e-mail address is changed (https)

While a forum account has an UNCONFIRMED EMAIL ADDRESS but has not yet been deleted, that user may request an e-mail be sent to their forum account's address so that email address may be confirmed (https)

Test e-mails are sent to e-mail accounts associated with forums accounts periodically. If a test message bounces due to critical, permanent failure such as "no such host" , "account closed" , "account disabled" , "no such user" or similar failures, the DEF CON forums account associated with that address may be changed from "registered user" to "UNCONFIRMED EMAIL ADDRESS" and that forum account may be disabled.
If this happens, the user may login and then edit their account e-mail address (https) and then request a new email confirmation/activation code (https)

After an account e-mail address is confirmed (through account activation that is emailed to a user) it may take some time for the system to allow new posts and PM. (Assuming the account was able to post before it had an UNCONFIRMED EMAIL ADDRESS, the amount of time should be less than 4 days.)

    Can't post:
Disabled Accounts may not post. Banned accounts may not post. Accounts with insufficient access may not post.
