    DefCon 14 BCCC date and time

    i've decided that it might be a good idea to go ahead and set a date and time for the BCCC, seeing as how other contests and events are become more established and time slots are starting to be defined. this is subject to change if a lot of people get bent out of shape or start pleading with me to push things, but for now let's figure the BCCC will be...

    12:00 Noon
    Friday, August 4th


    ... i'm hoping for some shady poolside spot, but the actual physical location will be announced much closer to con. or possibly, like last year, just sort of chosen as best as possible and then the contest info table will have the exact location. best case scenario, we have a spot all selected and it's mentioned in the program, etc.

    okay, noon. i think i can do noon...

    eeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaah! arrrrrrrrrrrgh! How am i going to get there by noon? i'm gonna have to leave usenix on thursday night - hmmmm, how to get to vegas from B.C. in one hop? i'm working on it Dev, but i can't even make plane/hotel reservations until the end of june.

      I think you should move it earlier. how bout 9am.

      Starting con with a contest involving beer (excuse me, beverages) sounds like a good start to con :)

        Judging from past cons, 9 am on Friday will get you the regulars and people who know what's going on, but that might be a bit early for the first timers. Factor that with the general unknown about the new facility, I'd say noon might be better. Course I won't be participating, just figured I would put in my 2 bits. :)

          Ok, this blows. My talk is schedualed at THE EXACT SAME TIME

          I formally request we move the BCCC later, or allow me to show up late, or allow me to send a proxy to operate the device.

          2 months of engineering had better not go to waste.

            this will have to be addressed, indeed. i'll likely just move the event forward a bit. more news to come as i consider best times.

                for those who didn't catch it mentioned elsewhere... in light of some tight schedule squeezes i'll be extending the BCCC event to run from about 12:30 to 13:30 (or even later) on friday. i'll be at the event area (wherever it turns out to finally be... someplace outside) setting up at noon. starting at 12:30 we'll have some of the equipment trials, etc. render and anyone else arriving late need not worry, main competitions and other fun will continue until at least 13:30... possibly even 14:00.

                  I go on shift at 1700, so I would ask we do it before then.
