Re: DEF CON in the news
While trying to find the article about odd conventions on MSN.com that had lead me to DefCon in the first place, I came across this one: Defcon aims to thwart counterfeit badges (www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14190542).
ETA: And only just now realized that it's two years old. Bah, I need to change my contacts. Here's the article I mentioned: Geek Getaways (cityguides.msn.com/citylife/ article.aspx?cp-documentid= 5812133). Second paragraph in the "Suffering from gadget envy?" section.

Not sure if people saw this on InternetEvolution.com, but it is about the Madigan experience and the larger context:

"The DEFCON annual hacker conference is 15 years old. In technological time, 15 years is several generations, and in popular culture terms -- it's an eternity. As the founder of DEFCON and its sister conference Black Hat, I've had a ringside seat for many of the major events in the world of digital security, and I've watched how the media perceives our culture up close."Leave a comment:

Starting March 1st we will be opening the call for papers for DEFCON 15 - the annual gathering of subversive computer folks.
Earlier submissions are given higher priority, so prepare your best kung-foo, and send it our way. Remember, we are always looking for original and highly technical content, unusual subject matters, software releases, innovative hardware hacking, and generally mind-blowing content. Check out past convention archives to get an idea of what we are talking about.
Once the date is closer there will be more specifics.. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up!

Heh-heh. Maybe I should not shine a light on that article though-- it may cause people to actually visit it.Originally posted by postThe Saint Johnsbury Academy is to host DEFCON 15, a popular underground hacking conference. DEFCON 14 was held August 4-6 at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. But this year the founders of DEFCON wanted a change, and contacted the private highschool about hosting the conference.Leave a comment:

Re: DEF CON in the news
We just got an e-mail where someone was asking about some sort of debate between "someone from your organization and the religious right, moderated by a Catholic Priest."
Of course, they were confused about "defcon"
In addition to a new video game called "Defcon" being made, there is another group that uses the name "DefCon" from "DEFending the CONstitution" and their site is here:

Wheee! Collisions in the namespace can be fun.Leave a comment:
