What do you want to see..

What do you want to see at next defcon? As we all know, defcon has become a bit more like a big party in the last few years. My first defcon was Defcon 7, and according to some, that is when it started to become too popular.

    What do you think?

I'd like to see some actual technical content in the uber track. DC8 was pretty good, but I walked out on a lot of lectures at 9.

Gotta keep the black and white as it is. I need my annual Jackalope fix. Was pretty cool seeing Kris Klink there this year, too.

I see nothing wrong with the Black and White. Anyone had any bad experiences with that?

Ok... I'm going to go off a little bit here. If you don't like it, my apologies... but that's what moderators are for.

From the DefCon 9 events page, http://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-9-events.html

OK, so this year we will have more ambient music (So you can talk to the person next to you) and a bouncer at the door.. Just like al those clubs you hate in LA or NY. If you don't try to dress up in your finest threads you don't get in. This is to revers last years trend to people showing up in the same clothing they drove out from California in.

        *snip*

So what is acceptable to wear? In the past there have been formal wear, fetish wear, bondage clothing, a prom dress, old zoot suits, and a full "cyber" punk on roller blades with a head mount display. Anything you want to show off or feel good wearing, basically.
Um... Someone screwed the pooch on that one. I didn't see any bouncer in the music room during the official 'scheduled' time of B/W, and there were people there in jeans and white t-shirts, looking like they just came in out of the desert. And being one of the people 'dressed up' (and those of you who know/saw me know somewhat I mean) I felt rather perturbed that the guidelines SPECIFICALLY SAID to dress up for the event, yet people didn't...

There needs to be an enforced standard, at the least. Either you DO enforce a dress code during the official ball, or you don't. And I, among other people, would really appreciate it if you would. This is a time to dress up in what you think is cool and show off, not come to a rave in the open desert where the only thing you want to do is keep cool.
I check my sanity with a wristwatch. What do you check yours with, a dipstick?

I think either the announcement was there so people would dress up or not bother coming... or someone screwed up.

'Sides, all the poorly dressed folk should have been upstairs with the Drunken Whores.

            Bouncers

There were several goons in the B&W ball. I was there, noid was there and a couple of other folks. Some were in attire and some of us were in goon garb.

But we were there. Yeah, I agree... Jackalope rocks. If someone has her email address, I'm going to need to so I can get her vendor table reserved.

              ugh

Oh yeah, don't even get me started on the Drunken Whores.... Yeah, *ok*, they're pretty cool. That's the twist here for me.... For a hacker conference to remain a hacker conference, the attendees have to be willing to do more than swill down alcohol and act like asses to be popular.

I've never given a flying fuck about popularity and I'd rather not start now. I get along with people who have similiar interests, which includes computer security.

Someone start a poll and see if we should let the Drunken Whores come back next year! hahah

                  Bring Back the TV

I want to see the conference broadcast on the Hotel TVs again. Being able to watch the talks in your room was nice at DC8, missed it at DC9, hope to see it return at DCX.

                    Hope for the future

I have yet to be to a Def Con convention, but I was planning on attending DCX. But if it isn't going to be anything other than parties and drinking, I'm not comming. For one I'm not social enough to do well at parties, and two I can't drink anyways, so what's the point?

my friends and I plan on driving out there from Maine... partying and music is the last thing on our minds...
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

                          Play time

DEFCON is, in my mind, about computer security...ect. The parties are a great way to socialize with like minded people. There will be some type of grandstanding no matter what. If it will be nothing but non stop drunken assholes, then count me out. I like a good buzz too but I'm can do that in my local area without coming to Vegas, wasting my time and money. The B/W ball....if you don't make an attempt at dressing to impress, then stay home. Wear something clean and something that will turn heads...in a good way of course. (skin to win) lol
