  • Why?

Defcon Groups exist all around the world. People sometimes come to the the Defcon Forums to learn about their Local Defcon Group. Some Defcon Groups host their own forums, and may benefit with link from the Defcon forums to their forums. Some Defcon Groups don't have forums, but would like forum space for discussion. Some Defcon Groups have broken links to their published websites, and users may want to ask about this. Some Defcon groups have forums, but have no time to police them of spam, asshats and fucktards.

These do not exist to steal members, or impose a "USE THE DEFCON FORUMS" manifesto. They exist to help users to contact members in their local DCG. If you want to have your DCG Discussions take place in a forum here, great! If you decide you've outgrown the Defcon Forum, subforum for your DCG, make a forum elsewhere, and I'll setup a link to it. If you run your own forums and would also like a subforum here, we can do that too.

The only requirement for me to create a new group or link here, is for there to be a corresponding entry on the main DCG page:
    http://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-gr...ups-index.html

That page is the authoritative source that I use. If you are not on there, you should not be listed here.

An e-mail was sent out to all Points of Contact on the main DCG Page:

You are listed as a Point of Contact for a Defcon Group (DCG) on the DCG Page:

I am one of the admins on the Defcon Forums:
    https://forum.defcon.org/

Some Defcon Groups have forums and like them. Some have forums, but
may not want to keep them running due to the spam, and user problems.
Others don't have forums, share forums with another group, or don't
even have a web page for their group.

I'd like to make it easier for DCG to have at least one forum for
discussion, even if leaders of your DCG change.

Announcement: Defcon Forums has built links to existing DCG Forums,
for DCG that publish links to forums, and a separate forum for each
    registered DCG:

https://forum.defcon.org/forumdisplay.php?f=242 (Each DCG can now have
a forum for discussion, and subscribe to that forum or other DCG
    forums.)

Forums listed in Italics are actually links to forums run by various
DCG. Other DCG forums have been hidden by name. Users may select to
join usergroups for each DCG they want to "join" by visiting their
    UserControlPanel for usergroup membership:
    https://forum.defcon.org/profile.php?do=editusergroups

We want to provide forum resources for DCG that want it, and links to
DCG that run their own forums.

    It is explained better here:
    https://forum.defcon.org/showthread.php?t=7835

Please let me know if you have any questions.
This e-mail was sent out today, the first day of user-selectable DCG Forums.
This allows people to subscribe to DCG they want to have available, and not subscribe to those they don't. Users control the level of DCG-related noise on their own. :-)

      Re: Why?

Today everyone was added to both "major" DCG groups "all US Defcon Groups" and "all non-US Defcon Groups"

You can manage your forum groups membership here:
      http://forum.defcon.org/profile.php?do=editusergroups
      or here:
      https://forum.defcon.org/profile.php?do=editusergroups

      Rules?
Two options for rules are described here.

      Feedback welcome.

        Re: Why?

Actually, could you make a shingle for the DC206 on here? We had been piggybacking on the neg9 forums, but traffic is very minimal. Till I decide if I want to host a forum on dc206.org itself, this would be the more appropriate place for it.

I return whatever i wish . Its called FREEDOWM OF RANDOMNESS IN A HECK . CLUSTERED DEFEATED CORn FORUM . Welcome to me

          Not a problem. :-)

Changed. I can add a link to https://neg9.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=13 in the forum description if you like, or leave it off-- whatever is best for you.

Also, addition of extra sub-subforums for any DCG is possible for DCG that become busy enough to support it or if someone like you wants expansion. (The hard part of building the permissions, and controls is done, so any new sub-subforums for any DCG subforum inheirit the settings.

            Re: Why?

I think we should announce on the dcg planning and discussions mailing lists, as well as the dcg contacts emails to let them all know about it.

Russ or Grifter, if you see this can you make an announcement to the DCG lists?
