Is RU Sirius looking for Defcon?

In the latest episode of his Podcast, the RU Sirius Show, counterculture legend and creator of Mondo 2000 (the zine which Wired started essentially as a carbon copy of), RU opines:

"If they had [Burning Man] in a hotel in Vegas, I'd totally go"

So, do you think he's looking for Defcon?

Interesting. I always saw Defcon as a kind of counter-culture eclectic group of hackers, geeks and to some degree nerds. There is not as much a "finding yourself" mood at Defcon per se. Further, there is not much of art influence as BM.

But all things being equal, I would say it is a Buring Man of sorts in Vegas, simply because of the diverse group that makes it up. Additionally, I find that diverse nature is currently being fostered (see DT call for more contests) and can be heading in that direction.

If all else fails, there certinly is a lot of illicit substance abuse on par (well to scale anyways) with BM :)

Yes, I see now that the Riviera doesn't foster the same sort of flow that the AP did. It's unfortunate you missed all these things... hopefully we'll find a better way to keep people informed next year.

I will try Dodgeball next year. I met up with maybe 40% of the people I intended to, as opposed to 80-90% my previous years at Defcon
