Thanks for the info, I read through those documents not exactly what I was looking for but the articles were great. I just think I was thinking something else, what was wrong. I understand better now what cert are used for.

Pfff, that article doesn't even go into the coolness of the Euler phi/totient function or how boned we are if somebody ever figures out a good way to factor big integers.

They are probably refering to an SSL certificate. Which they may be using a device Similar to a "Blue Socket" for wireless authentication and possibly encryption(?). They use said Blue Socket device where I go to school so it's what I'm familiar with.

There is a huge wifi network where I live. To access there network you have to have a correct MAC address and a certificate installed on your computer.

I am assuming that it's a .cer file.

My question is, what does this cer file do?
Does it just tell the server that you are spouse to be there and to allow you to access the network.

Does anyone know of any good documents I can read what will make this clear to me?

I would also like to find out if this is a good way to secure a wifi network. Also would like to know how to set up a wifi network what needs a cer file.
