A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.Comment

in all seriousness, i do often look into real estate out to the south west of the city... it's that delicate balance of "how far out should i go to really feel removed and not bothered" vs. "i don't want to have to drive an hour to get to the damn airport"
any suggestions on towns?

I'd even let you move out here as long as you swear you won't do any of the following that I've seen many of your compatriots from NJ do.
Follow a Horse and Buggy when there's perfectly good space to pass.

Video tape cows in the fields chewing the cud (that's what they do, you've seen them, now move on)
Drive 10mph below the speed limit in the passing lane on the highway
Venture off the main roads on to the backroads (that's how we get around to avoid you)

See, this is a problem that I spent serious time on for the five or so years before I retired. I am now content, having found a place that suits me, and allows me to live a hermit-like existence, yet still have amenities. There are things I give up by living here, but there are plenty of things I gain. It's a decent balance. Make a list of what's important to you, and another that has the things you want most to leave behind. You will also have to consider whether what you do for a living can be done in a place you want to live in. That's usually the biggest compromise. Sometimes you change what you do, or how much money it takes to live. Other times you make compromises in what you want.Comment
