  • Hotels in the Harmon Ave area

    From an initial looking at Alexis Park's website it says that all the rooms are booked (no suprise there) for the Con. What other places do people stay at? The Hardrock is kinda spendy for my budget.

    the website is wrong

    Hey;

    When I decided I was going this year I too checked the website and found that same info. If you call and speak to the reservations people you will find they should still have some rooms (the monarch is 119 a night plus tax)..when I called two weeks ago ( and the website said the same SOLD OUT b.s) they still had rooms of all floorplans available.

    All they are gonna need is a credit card # to charge the first night as a non refundable deposit and tell you when you get there that all parties gonna have to sign a damage waiver....

    CU THERE!

      Well, I booked a room at St. Tropez which is pretty close to Alexis and was charged 89/night for a single bed. I also told them I was 20 and they were okay with letting me reserve the room so this might be one those under 21 might wanna look into.

        I called the Alexis on Saturday, and they still had the basic rooms available as of that day. So, calling might be a better idea. We all know how often websites get updated...

          There's a fairly ghetto hotel/wannabe casino a couple blocks from the Alexis called the Key Largo. It wasn't the best, but there are certainly worse, it was priced reasonably, and they give you a big coupon book for free food and stuff in their casino when you check in.

            Status of the Alexis

            I just called the Alexis. Thier website says sold out because Defcon takes the whole hotel. If you call and specifically mention Defcon you will get a room! (And there is even the cheaper rooms still available....hurry one and all!)

              I booked at the St. Tropez this year. Seriously, if you get a room at the St. Tropez near the front, you will have a much closer walk to the con area than if you get stuck in the back of the Alexis Park.

              Also, both hotels seemed very comparable in quality, but the St. Tropez was about 50% cheaper per night that weekend.

                About that walk... you can actually request a room closer to the front of the Alexis if you're staying there. It's not guaranteed, but especially if you're arriving early in the week, they try to accomodate you.

                  how large is the Alexis Park?

                  Hey;

                  Damn! how big is this Alexis Park Hotel? You say that you can stay at a totally different hotel and still have a shorter walk to an event that is in a hotel across the street?

                  I believe the Alexis Park is 500 rooms (I think the website says this)....can anyone confirm this seemingly outlandish (by no means am i saying it's not true..but for christs sake it's a hotel and not the freaking Ponderosa Ranch)

                  This will be my first CON so I am spending as much time on the site and reading the non crap posts from the mail list to try to get a good idea of what to expect.

                  Thanks!

                    The lot where the alexis park resides doesn't have a lot of width compared to it's depth. A room at the very back of the A.P. ends up being farther from the con area than a room at the very front of the St. Tropez. The St. Tropez I believe is the same. So picture the two lots like..

                    Well I put a nice graphic here, but it didn't equate very well in HTML without the

                    Picture those old city houses where the side facing the street was maybe 20 feet (so they could cram a lot of them) but they went what felt like 100 feet deep into the block. I remember walking what felt like 5-10 minutes to my room at the very back of the AP and saw rooms that were like 2-3 minutes away from the con area at the St.T.

                      Also, the St. Tropez isn't across the street, but rather in an adjacent lot. There is nothing between the two, not even a parking lot. That might make it a little easier to visualize.
