Depending on the time, I will try to be there. I'd help to run it, but I'm swamped with other things already.

Until last year it had always been Nulltone that ran the Forum Meet. Last year I believe that Cot did it. I think the responsibility falls to Converge this year.

TheCotMan and I discussed this and deteremined that the first person to ask about it would be the winner of this year's position as El Presidente de la reunión malvadas de los foros. Congratutlations Jackalope! You Win!!!

I prodded Grifter, but this year specifically told him not to worry about Skybox space for the forums. It proved to be overkill last year and as nice as they are, have much better targets, parties, and events to fill them this year.

Every year the topic returns .. but the face of the Forums and its members has changed considerably over the last 6 years. So lets re-open and re-hash what we want out of this thing. Do we want to huddle in a semi-empty room and chat while parties are going on around us? Do we want to hit the strip as a crazy group of people and do something, go somewhere? What say ye Forum Members?

I think we should talk DT into buying us beer for the forum meet.
I'd come to it then.

How many underagers are there on the forums? (speak up!)

I would definitely be down for something along those lines. Something that folks can show up to, hang out (not too noisy), but some place that doesn't turn into a huge ambiguous group-bill-fuckup (*cough*quarks*cough*)... byo..um,funds. Preferably including 18+ .. younger and thats just a difficult find and sell .. but some place that has drinks .. finding a place that includes our smoking friends is getting to be even more difficult with new Vegas laws, but don't forget them.

Not wanting to export the thing, but lets face it.. most of us early have seen each other in various respects by Friday (typically best time for Forums Meet to work out). Lets find something where folks can chat, eat, drink, and chill in between the crazy action to follow.

Gotta agree there... a private area would be much better. Of course, I have been too busy gooning to make it to the forum meets the last couple years, so I can't talk.

Now.. I am going out on a limb here, but why not have the TBBQ be the forum meet? Most folks are there by Thursday night..

I like the idea, but thats because I'm always in town that early, am at the TBBQ and generally see most of the folks there anyways ... folks just need to remember that by setting it Thursday evening, it generally excludes folks driving from Cali .. ala Death Race / Cannonball.

Thursday after TBBQ is the Summit Meet, which will take up the majority of the evening after the BBQ concludes, last year pretty late.

Before the BBQ theres going to be some pre-bbq events, such as the Titanium Chef thing, and possibly others not listed yet, but there should be a loose gathering of people already in the park pre BBQ.

Id think either late 11-12ish or pre-bbq around 4pm.

Id be game to do something off site.. but theres also the logistics, how many people are gonna make it? At least with the BBQ or the Hotel,
people will already be on location.

My problem is that I tend to get booked doing dj stuff - random parties - unoffical events such as the TBBQ, etc...and they overlap way too much that I have to skip out on a lot of things. I'm leaning towards making the forum meet the TBBQ because I will (should) be there allready and I won't have to do a flash appearance at TBBQ and then have to split all fast because of some other event.

Maybe mark a few tables "Forums meet" so we'd know where to hang for a bit and get some introductions, etc.

I'm sure there's other peeps who feel divided the same kind of ways.

Not to mention that staff members are busy setting up for some little conference that starts the next day and are pretty much unable to attend.

I am guessing the skybox idea like last year is out of the question, due to the new configuration of the space. I think the private room would be best, allow us all to just relax.

If it's at the BBQ it will probably work. If I remember correctly many of the forum regulars were making the food run before the BBQ last year.

The only issue with having it post-BBQ is that it may conflict with the Summit.

w00t! Glad to have you back HighWiz.

On the topic of the Forums Meet .. vote up to now split 1/3 of us wanting it on Thursday, 1/3 of us wanting it on Friday as usual, and 1/3 of us not really caring when/where.

How about two Forum Meets?

1) We set a segment of the TBBQ area aside for those from the forums that want to meet at the BBQ. Get a jumpstart right?.. that way its not just a sea of people with occasional run-ins .. folks in a specific area can meet and greet.

2) I bug DT and get us a room Friday evening as well (probably not a skybox, after talks, before parties kick in full gear) .. for the Official Honest-to-goodness Forum Meet.. folks doing other things will have had the opportunity at the BBQ, but otherwise Forum regulars and noobs alike can plan on the traditional meetup.

It does possibly trade turnout for convenience, but not necessarily .. I personally have no foreseen issue with showing up to both.

Well the problem there is that there are already things scheduled for Thursday night. Thus the reasoning to have it @ the toxic BBQ. But the problem with having it there is that some people can't make it... Like that loser Chris for example, he always has excuses why he can't do something.

I'm with most of you, the best environment to host the forum meet and greet is at the park with the toxic bbq. It has a laid back atmosphere. I'm driving from LA myself but i'll be sure to be in time. So as of time start no time yet right? 5pm seems like a good time to kick it off.

Uh, Sorry about that I meant to post here when we assigned it on the schedule. The official forum meet is in room 115 from 20:00 till 23:00.

As I understand it there is also another pre-forum meet at the Toxic BBQ for those who can make it.

I am not running this, however a room needed to be assigned and I was on a very short time line to see a decision reached.

however a room needed to be assigned and I was on a very short time line to see a decision reached. cuz you rock like that!

That's the deal folks.

Thursday 5:00pm
We're gonna try to split out a table at the TBBQ for folks to meet/greet if desired. TBBQ starts at 3pm with some folks running for food and some folks in the park getting things started: sub-events/contests will start rolling [see also Titanium Chef! and chat with Deviant about your participation] .. the anticipated Hooch Wars also comes to mind, .. and of course much more) TBBQ goes until 10pm give or take. Keep in mind that TheSummit starts at 9pm .. so going from the BBQ to the awesome annual fun-draiser is a pretty suave move.

.. but what back on subject, the 5:00pm informal pre-Forum Meet allows you to hook up with folks at the BBQ before the event really kicks in, make plans, have good times, find pyr0 and hug him for his stylish 23 post count! .. general stuffs.

Friday 8:00pm
This is the real shindig. Thanks to Nikita's awesome room-fu, the Official Forum Meet will be held in room 115 .. approximately until 11pm. Why this timeframe/location? Having the official Forum Meet onsite allows for the greatest concentration of forum members to meet, regardless of how early they fly/drive in; or in the case of Goons, how fucking over-busy they are running the great thing that makes us all show up to begin with. The time reflects the same goal, while avoiding too much cramp on the talks but not competing directly with the B&W, Hacker Jeopardy, or the craze of amazing parties that happen. Quite honostly its getting nearly impossible to schedule anything at Defcon without conflicting with something, so play your pawns right and hope your spare liver will not thank me in the morning.

If you don't like it, show up to the Forum Meet on Friday night and bitch me out. If you do like it, show up to the Forum Meet on Friday night and say hi.

It's pretty much a means of flagging a geo for people to head to so that they can assume people in the area are Forums folks .. considering the attendence of the BBQ .. finding Forum members in the crowd is becoming much more difficult.

Forum Members hat voted for having this at the BBQ: be thinking of a good way to flag off an area.
Everyone else: be thinking of this nugget that came up in IRC .. how difficult/costly would it be to purchase 300-400 water pistols?
