You may remember this thread about public reservations of rooms during Defcon weekend being sold out.

UPDATE:
The Thursday before Defcon now shows up as Sold-Out on the Defcon Reservations Page (https://safe.rivierahotel.com/cgi-bin/lansaweb?PROCFUN+RN+RESNET+R15+funcparms+UP(A2560) :;DEFCON7;?
).

Saturday stays require a previous night's reservation according to this map of reservations.

(The old thread has gone too long without posts, so I am starting a new one with this new information.)

WS: "We both know you have rooms available up there"

FD: "Well I guess I can do $99 dollars a night"

WS: "Ooo your sooo naughty"

I just got Fri-Mon, they did not seem to care that I was traveling 12,000 miles to be there. Sold out means sold out.

Guess I'll spend a night at the AP!

We got a room at the Circus Circus. Much cheaper, and still quite close...

(and no, they didn't tear it down... yet)

The Riv website for International Association of Chiefs of Police-Impaired Driving Conference still shows rooms for Thursday

https://safe.rivierahotel.com/cgi-bin/lansaweb?PROCFUN+RN+RESNET+R15+funcparms+UP(A2560) :;IACPJIB;?,

and says they will only hold the block until June 28. So I would expect some more rooms to be available then :)

I just booked my room.........

Thursday, Friday, Saturday Defcon reservations, all sold-out:
https://safe.rivierahotel.com/cgi-bin/lansaweb?PROCFUN+RN+RESNET+R15+funcparms+UP(A2560) :;DEFCON7;?

However, the Public Reservation appear to be open again:
https://safe.rivierahotel.com/cgi-bin/lansaweb?PROCFUN+RN+RESNET+R15+funcparms+UP(A2560) :;;?

What may have happened:
Defcon reservations block(s) were moved back out to the public space for "normals" to reserve. (Just a guess.)

Non-Defcon,Public reservations block still shows Thursday as booked.

Another option is that another convention gave up their blocks freeing up the public blocks.

I just booked Thurs-Sun under that link. Oops. I'm hoping for an IACP room key.

Well I called even though thur-sat showed as sold on defcon block.
Thursday is sold regardless, but they gave me fri-sat for "defcon block"
I had the lady confirm it multiple times as I was booking it..

I have just called regarding the sunday, although it shows available on the site.
they state $164 if you call, and they are no longer accepting for the block.

I just booked my room at the Riviera by calling the front desk. I had to pay regular price for the night that where fully booked under Defcon block but had the defcon rate for the other nights.

Yep. It looks like that police chief's thing gave up some of their rooms too, to the public reservations block, because now, Thursday is available in the public reservations block:

https://safe.rivierahotel.com/cgi-bin/lansaweb?PROCFUN+RN+RESNET+R15+funcparms+UP(A2560) :;;?

Welcome to the Riviera-- where room availability it always in a state of flux... then again, maybe hey are just flux-ing around with their schedule. ;-)

The riviera now shows Thursday is AVAILABLE, and for $59

I already had reservations for fri-sat in the "defcon" group.
When I called back tonight, I stated I wanted the room for the Thursday and sunday now that it is available.

They charged me $95.00 (instead of $59 listed) and stated that is because It keeps me in the "defcon contract".

Didn't need to give CC info or anything..or new confirmation # which is opposite of Last time I called (to reserve the sunday) they told me I would have to check out and check back in.. today that is not the case apparently. Hotels confuse me.
what a racket.

Either way, Thursday seems available.

So if you are not under the defcon contract, then what? Does a cut of the room cost go to the conference rooms or ???

So if you are not under the defcon contract, then what? Does a cut of the room cost go to the conference rooms or ???

The way she put it to me was, if I wasn't under the "defcon contract" I would have got the room for $59.00 heh
So I asked how could the rooms be open, for the defcon block if they were already sold. She stated "they just opened up more of them"

So I paid the $95.00 for thursday, and sunday. (and I asked why I was told the sunday would be $164 last month when I called).

"that was the price without the defcon contract in june, now its $59 or $95"

I assume thats how large casinos probably make there money, raise the price and give what looks to be discounts at times they can gauge... and reel in reservations cheap to empty rooms when it gets to close to timeslots left open.

Maybe the extra 35 bucks goes towards damage control, if you are part of defcon. ;p
If you aren't part of defcon, they give you an extra bar of soap and sympathy.

To sum up this post.

If you need a last minute reservation: The defcon block for Thursday is open again

Then again, maybe math will help you find where the difference in cost exists...

One of the things with the Defcon Rate is automatic assignment of Deluxe Room (depending on availability at time of check-in.)

When you visit their room registration online, you should see the quoted room rate is for their "standard room."

Scroll down further, ad you should find a pull-down menu that offers:
Superior room +$20/night and Deluxe Room +$40/night.

So, if you actually get a Deluxe Room using the public rate for thursday, then you are actually paying $59 + $40 = $99 for 2 people plus tax. Add more than 2 people and it may cost more.

Defcon Rate is $95/night but if you have more than 2 people (legitimate listing) then there is an additional $20 charge.

For either, there is a 9% tax.

Base cost for public weekend rate (friday, or saturday) varies from $99 to $159. Add to these the $20 (for superior room) or $40 (for Deluxe room) and an additional cost savings under the Defcon Rate can be found for our weekend costs.

It appears as though there actually is a significant cost savings for people that register for the weekend and actually get a Deluxe Room, and they can get a marginal savings if they have a deluxe room for to $59 base public rate + $40 for deluxe.

Now the Riv's website is showing $54 a night (Standard) for Thursday, Sunday, and Monday. Superior is +10/night, while Deluxe is +20/night. https://safe.rivierahotel.com/cgi-bin/lansaweb?PROCFUN+RN+RESNET+R15+funcparms+UP(A2560) :;RNETSP3;?

At this point I don't think it's worth it to try to re-negotiate my Sunday stay for the $20 in savings.

I just loaded this page now, verified no caching, and it stil shows $59 for Thursday, August 2nd with a +$20 for superior and +$40 for Deluxe in the pull-down menu for room selection and the same price for Sunday, August 5th.

Any 3rd party want to check now and report what you see?
